GOP Florida Rep. Allen West served his country in Afghanistan, but now he’s battling on very different front lines: Congress.

From Townhall Magazine’s June feature, “Allen West: The New Face of American Black Leadership,” by Katie Pavlich:

“I’m living the American dream,” GOP Florida Rep. Allen West tells Townhall as he sits in his congressional office in Washington, D.C.

Now a freshman congressman, West grew up in the inner city of Atlanta in a healthy, old-school style, twoparent home. Both of his parents are from southern Georgia. West’s father served in Gen. George Patton’s III Corps in the European theatre during World War II and worked in a Veterans Affairs hospital when West was growing up. His mother worked for 6th Marine Corps District headquarters.

“My hair has always been quite short and cropped closely,” West jokes. …

WEST GOES TO WASHINGTON

“Just because you retire from the military and take off your uniform does not mean that your service to this country has ended,” says West, who had reached the rank of lieutenant colonel by the time he retired from the military.

“The thing that has really shocked me is the amount at which people are willing to lie, have no problem doing it and know that they’re lying,” West says. “I just wish people would step back and really think about what the fundamental principles and values that established this great nation were, and we need to get back to that.”

What does Washington really need? West think it’s more members of Congress with military experience and values. He believes the core values of integrity, honor and character, the cornerstones of serving in the military, should be used as the cornerstones for serving in Congress.

“Once upon a time, 75-80 percent of the members of Congress were men that had served in combat, served in a uniform. I think this country would be even greater if we went back and tapped that resource of those men and women who have raised their right hand and were willing to lay down their lives for this country,” West says.

Although still new to the House of Representatives, West has made a name for himself among a sea of congressman. He’s been able to effectively push back on the Washington, D.C.- establishment and fight the Left at the same time. He’s done it by holding himself and members of his staff to high standards and by refusing to compromise on conservative principles.

Sarah Palin: Allen West Should Be Considered For Vice Presidency In 2012

Sarah Palin said Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) should be considered for the vice presidency in 2012.

After being asked if she’d consider the VP position during an interview with Fox News, Palin stumped for West, counting his military experience as valuable.

“You know who I’d like to see considered for the VP slot is Colonel Allen West,” Palin said. “In this very tumultuous time across our world, someone who has served in our military or at least has intimate knowledge of the way the military works and should work, perhaps by having a close family member serve, someone like that.”

“Colonel Allen West, who’s been to the school of hard knocks, he should be the one who should be considered seriously for VP,” Palin said.

Palin refused to say whether she would consider a second vice presidential run.

“It’s not a no,” Palin said. “What I’m saying is, if I were in a GOP presidential candidate’s shoes, I would first look to Colonel Allen West.”

Palin also brushed off the suggestion that she may be asked to step up for a presidential run in the case of a brokered convention.

“I’m not going to be asked,” Palin said. “If it results in a brokered convention, that is nothing to fear.”

Palin also discussed the current state of the GOP race, predicting that Newt Gingrich would win his home state of Georgia on Super Tuesday and calling claims that Rick Santorum’s appeals to Democrats were “dirty” campaign tactics “ridiculous.”

Others Could, Newt WOULD…The National Patriot article by Craig Andresen

This article in no way is an endorsement by Congressman Allen West, this endorsement is simply by the writer Craig Andresen of The National Patriot

On October 20th2011, in The National Patriot, I endorsed Newt Gingrich for President. It was early in the race and the debate stage was still over populated. Too many candidates, not enough time to hear real solutions to burning issues.

My endorsement was early and I have not regretted making it. Not for a minute.

Now, as we are down to 4 candidates on the stage, I continue to stand with Newt.

I know there are some who don’t like him and some who believe Newt is evil. So be it.

Of the 4 remaining GOP candidates, I believe, 3 of them could beat Obama.

While Ron Paul’s followers are die hard and in many cases, beyond over the top, I believe they have reached their zenith in numbers – and in truth, there just aren’t enough of them. They will continue to say Paul is the only one who can draw votes from independents and liberals disenchanted with Obama but, I just don’t see that being enough.

While Paul might be able to out debate Obama on fiscal concerns, frankly, this race is not going to be ONLY about fiscal concerns. It’s also about a failed Obama foreign policy. Paul’s stance on foreign policy would be every bit as failing and possibly more dangerous than Obama’s, and neither we nor our allies can risk that.

Eventually, a GOP nominee will be named.

Eventually it will come down to a one on one against Obama.

Without Ron Paul, I believe any of the other 3 could beat Obama.

Is COULD enough to bet on?

I am asking each and every one of you to get ACTIVE, quit saying you are passing this around the social networks. CLAIM THIS, take the time to contact these GOP Presidential Candidates by email, phone, fax, whatever means necessary and tell them, they MUST choose Congressman Allen West.  Allen West on a GOP ticket will alter the course of these elections and will put someone in the White House that will only help our nation begin it’s journey back to it’s original roots.

I am asking you to not only get this out there in the social networks but get this viral and get up off your butts, dial that phone, send that email or even ALL of the above. A Commander-in-Chief for the GOP in 2012 Must have a good Wing Man

WE THE PEOPLE MUST MAKE OURSELVES HEARD!

My theory, and I think I am spot on. We The People can demand from these candidates to verbalize whom they would choose for their perspective Vice President. I feel it deep down in my heart that if ONE of these candidates could HEAR from us on a Nationwide level that we want them to openly state to the press that their choice would be Congressman Allen West, we could ALTER every single one of these “polls” being conducted and throw a monkey wrench in the system.

Gingrich Mentions Marco Rubio, Allen West as Potential Running Mates – Townhall 11/28/11

by Elisabeth Meinecke for TownHall

In this, Newt knows how to greatly appeal to conservatives. According to The Shark Tank, he suggested two popular figures for a GOP VP selection: Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Allen West.

“Gingrich, like Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann before him, said that he would absolutely consider Rubio for the VP slot, adding  that he (Rubio) was on everyone’s short list. Gingrich has also recently stated that he would consider Congressman Allen West for the job.”

Both are fantastic, though I’ve had conversations with the Townhall staff about if these men would serve better in roles that wielded more actual power, like a cabinet position. Having Rubio actually VOTE in the Senate, instead of just there for a tiebreaker, is not something to be lightly discarded. Also, I’d hate for either of them have to defend the policies of a GOP administration that will probably go soft at some point, looking at the track record of the candidates running.

But still, having Rubio or West featured front and center this summer in the GOP would definitely ease the pain of the 2012 field.

Newt Gingrich and Allen West – Dream Ticket by Peter Paton – Conservative Papers

Article by Peter Paton

Newt Gingrich has become today’s Teflon Man in American politics. Try as hard as they might, the Democrats and Liberals are finding it impossible to find any dirt that may stick against Newt The Comeback Kid, so much so that Newt has surged to the top of all Republican polls in New Hampshire, Iowa, Florida and Nevada, and he is emerging as red hot favorite to win the Republican nomination to go head to head with President Obama in November 2012.

The American people have great love, respect and admiration for Newt Gingrich that they have long since forgotten and forgiven Newt as an erring child for past misdemeanors, and now visualize Newt as the mature adult who strides the political stage like a modern day Samson and Colossus, who commands broad and widespread bi partisan support amongst the American electorate, and also surprisingly has a large fan base with many moderate Liberals and Independents, who still view Newt’s term as Speaker of the House with fondness and love.
