Allen West ” America is being redefined and fundamentally altered”

I pray everyone enjoyed a very blessed and Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. We enjoyed a special Thanksgivukkah at the home of our friends and at sundown, lit the Menorah candles, and gave blessings in Hebrew and English before we found delight in a delicious meal.

Yes, we discussed the state of our nation over dinner and came to realize that slowly America is being redefined and fundamentally altered. Every operating system, our economy, our work ethic, our core values, our national security and our foreign policy is being remade into something that is hardly recognizable.

One of the dinner attendees even asked rhetorically, “Are we this stupid?”

Tempus fugit is Latin for “time flies” and before you know it, Thanksgiving 2014 will be here. We shall gather again to give thanks, but will we still be sinking under the fundamental transformation of America or shall we have begun to right this ship?

Steadfast and Loyal

Rep. Allen West’s Washington Times Article – Counting Blessings Despite Election Bruises

by Rep. Allen West – Thursday Nov. 22, 2012

This week, most Americans from sea to shining sea will gather for a special meal. Thanksgiving Day is when all of us, regardless of who we are or our origins, can take a moment to reflect on the bounty that is ours as citizens of these United States.

It is appropriate to take these moments of grateful reflection, even during moments of disappointment. Serving my constituents in the House of Representatives has been one of the highest honors of my life. I am thankful to have had that opportunity but disappointed it will not continue.

Since Election Day, my staff and supporters worked to uphold the integrity of America’s electoral system. We tried to make sure every vote was counted accurately and fairly. While many supporters urged me to continue to contest the results of the election, my legal team did not believe further action would affect the outcome.

As a result, this will be a particularly bittersweet celebration for my family, as I expect it might be for many families across the country.

There is much economic hardship in our nation, and depending on the decisions taken during the next few months, it may deepen before it improves. There is a gathering storm in the Middle East, with potentially serious implications for the security of our country, and particularly that of our closest ally, Israel.

Many Americans are losing confidence in the nation they knew as children. Based on the popular vote in this past presidential election, it would appear just over half of our fellow citizens have lost confidence in their own ability to improve their lot in life without the help of the federal government. Almost as many Americans have lost confidence in the federal government’s ability to solve any problem.

Nonetheless, we shall sit down together as a nation and give thanks for all that we do have. No matter how lavish or how meager our celebration, as Americans we are all still imbued with the same unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

America is still a country like no other on Earth. More than two centuries ago, our Founders created a nation where an individual’s station in life was not determined by birthright, but by his own efforts and dreams. Even citizenship was not a matter of heritage or place of birth. All that is required is a pledge to support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America.

It is this Constitution that forms the basis of our American exceptionalism. It is the framework that allows each of us to pursue our dreams, to succeed, to make mistakes, to overcome them and rise even higher.

During this past election cycle, we heard a lot about the “haves and have-nots” in society, the “1 percenters,” and the millionaires and billionaires — as if these were fixed classes that remain the same in numbers year after year, with no chance for those below to move above.

Rep Allen West “Individual Sovereignty and Freedom to Succeed is not granted by Government Agencies”

Congressman Allen West wrote the following messages on Facebook today

I would like to wish the constituents of Florida’s 22nd Congressional District as well as my fellow Americans a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

It is my deepest hope, that as the citizens of this great nation sit around their tables today, they will be thankful to be Americans, where individual sovereignty and freedom to succeed is not granted by government agencies or officials, cannot be taken away in the name of fairness, but is embedded in the Constitution, with liberty and justice for all.

May God bless you and your family, and may God bless the United States of America.

Grateful Reflection on Our Blessings – by Allen West on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 9:18am

Today I, along with my wife Angela, and my daughters Aubrey and Austen, join Americans from sea to shining sea in gathering together for a special meal of Thanksgiving. Regardless of who we are or our origins, we will all take a moment to reflect on the bounty that is ours as citizens of these United States.

It is appropriate to take these moments of grateful reflection, even during moments of disappointment.  Serving my constituents in the House of Representatives has been one of the highest honors of my life, and I am deeply thankful to have had that opportunity.

As a result, this Thanksgiving will be a particularly bittersweet celebration for my family, as I expect it might be for many families across the country.

Nonetheless, we shall sit down together as a nation today and give thanks for all that we do have. No matter how lavish or how meager our celebration, as Americans we are all still imbued with the same unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, and all of God’s blessings.

Congressman Allen West ‘s E-Newsletter and The Weeks Highlights 11/28/11

Dear Patriot,

Greetings to our Constituents, fellow Floridians, and all Americans, let me begin by hoping all of you had a very Happy Thanksgiving. I pray everyone had safe travels and enjoyed  special time with family and friends, and a good time shopping on Small Business Saturday!

As I head back to Capitol Hill, I reflect on the many challenges facing us as legislators. However, there is an even bigger challenge facing the entire nation. During my time in the military, I was mentored by men and women who carried an honored title, “Leader.” They taught me that leadership has five components: courage, competence, conviction, commitment, and character.

Washington, D.C. has a budget deficit, but the leadership deficit is even more disconcerting. Leaders take responsibility and rarely take credit, a simple lesson that was taught to me as a young Captain in the U.S. Army by a superb Battalion Commander.  So as I draw closer to ending my first year as a Member of Congress, I want to briefly discuss failures in leadership, as a strong American leader would not take the misfortunes facing the American people and leverage it for “political gain.”

Here are the facts for America since January 2009:

– More than 2 Million Americans are unemployed, close to 26 Million are underemployed (National unemployment at or above 9% for 28 straight months, double that in the Black community.)

– Average gas prices have gone from $1.83 to $3.45.

– Federal debt has gone from $10.6 Trillion to over $15 Trillion, with three straight years of trillion-dollar-plus deficits (debt per person has gone from $34,000 to over $48,000)

– Food stamp recipients up by 41%, with 16% more Americans in poverty at 6.4 Million, the Misery Index is up 65%, and nearly 48.5% of Americans are on government aid.

– Home values are down 11%, and health insurance premiums are up 23% from $3,354 to over $4,000.

– United States global competitiveness is down from 1st to 5th in the world.

Yet with these abysmal statistics, all we hear from the big megaphone of the White House is we need to tax people, particularly certain people, more. We hear about extending payroll tax holidays which is nothing but a band-aid approach only providing a very short-term impetus. What no one is telling the American people, especially Seniors, is that the constant use of payroll tax breaks continues to erode the funding of Social Security – which is already running a deficit. When combined with the unemployment situation, we are speeding up the demise of Social Security in America.

If the solution is to extend unemployment benefits, then we are creating a situation where we must continue to borrow more money to fund initiatives, which will promote and exacerbate the destructive economic indicators.

We currently borrow 42 cents on every dollar… a dollar which soon, thanks to the insidious monetary policies emanating from the Federal Reserve, may not be the default currency of the world.

This is not leadership. It is policy by election cycle sound bite where the purpose is just to get reelected.  Politicians are now preying on the uninformed electorate and are not developing visionary pro-growth economic policies for America. The obvious goal is to create more victims in America, an America of dependency – not individual independence.

I have never previously held elected office and four years ago was returning from a two-and a- half year assignment as a civilian-military advisor to the Afghan Army. I do not see myself as a “politician.” I seek to be a political leader and thus hope to be an American Statesman.
Therefore, I will not be supporting, if I get a straight up and down vote, any of these manipulative deceptive political gimmicks – such as extension of payroll taxes and unemployment benefits.
I will be supporting stabilizing or lowering tax rates in America, and prefer to flatten them, eliminate loopholes, and reduce subsidies and deductions.

No more raising of the debt ceiling! We have shown the American people enough ineptness, incompetence, failure, and lack of courage and conviction to last a lifetime. Our system of governance is broken and we need major bold structural reforms.

Predictably enough, I am quite sure the Democrat party, many in the media, and political opponents will take my words, and eventual votes, and use them against me- feel free. I am not going to manipulate, deceive, or mislead the American people for “political gain” such as the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is comfortable doing.

If the constituents of this Congressional District would rather have a follower than a principled leader to represent them… well, the quote of Plato comes to mind, “those who refuse to participate in politics shall be governed by their inferiors.” However, it is not just about participating; it is about being educated and informed on the issues.

The challenge to our constituents, as well as all Americas, is how long will you be treated as mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed crap? There is an incredible choice Americans must make next November 2012.

Shall America continue as a Constitutional Republic led by men and women of courage, conviction, and character… or shall America become a bureaucratic nanny-state ruled by manipulative deceivers seeking their own political gain?

Is America truly that shining City on the Hill, or will that light be forever extinguished? Choose wisely, your children and grandchildren are watching… as well as our enemies abroad.

Steadfast and Loyal,

Rep. Allen West Says Defense Cuts Would Send ‘Horrible Message’

By Hiram Reisner for Newsmax

Florida Rep. Allen West said Wednesday if the failure of the defense-reduction supercommittee leads to additional cuts to the Defense budget it would not only send a “horrible message” to Americans but also to “our adversaries and our enemies all across the world.”
“I’m very worried about it — speaking from experience — having lived through a period when the military was made a bill payer for the federal government, and we saw what happened as far as the reduction of ammunition, and fuel, and spare parts,” West, who served in the Army for 20 years, told Fox NewsShannon Bream.
“So I think that when you look at the fact that we have made the cuts to the military — $466 billion over the next 10 years — another $500 billion to $600 billion, especially when we’re asking our military to do more at this time, would send a very horrible message not just across this country but also to our adversaries and our enemies all across the world,” West said.
The former lieutenant colonel said it is critical that Congress makes provisions to avoid cuts in the Defense budget and that President Barack Obama goes along with a congressional plan. Obama said after the supercommittee announced it had failed that he would veto any attempt to get around spending cuts, which were built in to a failure of the debt-reduction panel.
“I think the president has to — the most important title that the president of the United States has is commander-in-chief,” West said. “And if he is willing to put politics over the men and women that we have in uniform serving all over this country that were asked to stand on freedom’s ramparts and protect us so that we could have a Thanksgiving, then I think the president really is misguided in his statement.
