Congressman Allen West – The Truest of Statesman

183579_t607

When you are looking to describe a statesman you must first understand that  politician and a statesman are not the same thing.   A statesman, is not a tyrant; he is the free leader of a free people and must posses four critical qualities.

  • Strong Principles
  • A Moral Compass
  • A Vision
  • The ability to build a consensus to achieve that vision

I believe in my own mind that two of the greatest statesman to ever live were Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln. Along those ideals and principles I personally believe Congressman Allen West is in every word a true statesman. When I read about the strong principles and moral compass I acquired even more affirmation. Then I felt compelled to describe in greater detail why I firmly believe Allen West’s principles are equal to these two great men. (here are some of the things that I found while researching)

  • A statesman follows his moral compass instead of opinion polls, his ideas are often initially out of step with the public mood. But instead of tailoring to that mood, he speaks to the very best within his countrymen. He understands that while their ideals may be deeply buried, powerful rhetoric can bring them forth and activate them. The strength of his words comes from the fact that he actually believes what he says. And he does not make his countrymen’s hearts soar and burn with empty promises; he keeps his word and does what he says he will do.
  • A statesman has a clear vision of what his country and his people can become. He knows where he wants to take them and what it will take to get there.  A statesman is able to recognize problems ahead and be able to come up with solutions that are good not only for the short-term, but for the long-term as well. The statesman keeps in mind not only the here and now, but the world future generations will inherit.
  • A  true statesman makes his decisions by following his own moral compass. He believes in absolute truths, and his moral compass is rooted in a sense of absolute right and absolute wrong. When something is wrong, he plainly says it is wrong and does everything in his power to fight against it. When something is right, he is willing to overcome any opposition to preserve and spread it. The statesman is ambitious—he must be to obtain a position of power—but there are things he simply will and will not do to get to the top. He is a man of integrity; he speaks the truth. He leads by moral authority and represents all that is best in his countrymen.
  • The statesman builds his platform on a foundation of firm, unchanging, fundamental truths. These are the things he believes at his very core.  Just as in the foundation of a house, storms may wear on the structure, opposition and challenges come about, times change, but the foundation remains. A statesman may change the details of his policies and his methods for achieving those policies, but only as much as those short-term tactics serve the purpose of furthering his principles in the long run.

Congressman Allen West possess these qualities and more, he stands by his beliefs and his love of his country. He wants and desires to keep this nation safeguarded for his children and many generations to come. He stands on principles and commands an audience when he speaks. Those that know him have the highest respect for him, those that do not, despise him for having the fortitude to go against the grain.

Recently when being interviewed by NPR, Congressman West was asked about his plans going forward and while the lame-stream media has issued their spun statements  “West compares himself to Abraham Lincoln” a quick listen to the interview will show that Congressman West simply made a statement that “Hey, Abraham Lincoln only served one term in congress”. He was not comparing himself to anyone but making a statement that a once great president only served one term in congress and went on to bigger and better things. Simply put, West is far from done and America is far from letting him go! – Tanya Grimsley

Rep. Allen West “Looking back on last week, and forward over the fiscal cliff…”

by Congressman Allen West on Sunday, December 2, 2012 (Facebook page)

While I enjoyed watching Georgia and Alabama battle it out for victory in the SEC Championship, the great contest in which our nation is engaged to ensure wealth expansion and economic growth remains part of the American way of life was never far from my mind.It seems this Administration has made its position very clear. Despite all historical economic evidence, the President and his Administration refuse to acknowledge that greater revenues are indeed derived from lower tax rates, and fewer deductions and exemptions rather than the opposite.

What’s more, the President appears to believe his policies have not contributed in any way to the economic mess in which we find ourselves – which is even more astounding considering his Administration is now demanding complete and permanent authority to increase the debt limit. Where will this end?

Sadly, this brings to mind another president, Mohammed Morsi, who just recently decided he also needed much broader powers, and had the Egyptian constitution rewritten in 16 hours in the middle of the night. Only weeks ago, the Obama Administration was praising Mr. Morsi.

Meanwhile, back at the “fiscal cliff,” President Obama wants $1.6 trillion in more taxes, $50 billion more in stimulus spending, continued extension of the 99-week unemployment benefits – to the tune of about $30 billion per year — maintaining the payroll tax cut, which has led to Social Security running a deficit  and which even the AARP opposes, and has said we can talk about spending cuts later. And when exactly would that be?

I wonder how many Americans have heard the simple maxim: “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”

I wonder how many Americans truly believe President Obama has any intention to rectify our fiscal issues? We are indeed heading to that 53% growth in the federal government and more expansion of the welfare-state, which is exactly what his Fiscal Year 2013 budget laid out.

There is no plan to reduce our debt or deficit, just more spending. America is truly moving away from an opportunity society to a dependency society. That means more votes for those in power who will provide, as de Tocqueville stated, the largesse from the public treasury.

I want to share with you three quotes that I certainly wish this Administration would read:

1. “The first object of taxation is to secure revenue. When the taxation of large incomes is approached with this view, the problem is to find a rate which will produce the largest returns. Experience does not show that the higher rate produces the larger revenue…

I agree perfectly with those who wish to relieve the small taxpayer by getting the largest possible contribution from the people with large incomes. But if the rates on the large incomes are so high that they disappear, the small taxpayer will be left to bear the entire burden”.  – President Calvin Coolidge…who lowered tax rates and increased revenue.

2. “Taxation may be so high as to defeat its object, that given sufficient time to gather the fruits, a reduction of taxation will run a better chance, than an increase, of balancing the budget”.  – John Maynard Keynes, 1933

3. “It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now. Efforts to avoid tax liabilities make certain types of less productive activity more profitable than other more valuable undertakings and this inhibits our growth and efficiency. The purpose of cutting taxes is to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy”.  –President John F Kennedy, during his January 1963 address to Congress

It was George Santayana who stated in the 1920s, “those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Sadly, I fear we are on a bullet train to repeat the economic failures of the past.

In closing, I want to put the events at the United Nations this week in some sort of context. Since 9-11 2012, has anyone paid attention to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East? It is a Middle East where, according to President Obama’s foreign policy, we are “pivoting away.”

Since November, we have seen Israel come under horrific attack from Hamas in Gaza, who are being supplied from Iran. We have had Egypt go 180 degrees away from any semblance of an “Arab Spring” of democracy to a radical Islamist regime led by the Muslim Brotherhood. Lastly, by a vote of 138-9, with 41 abstentions (which are in effect tacit yes votes), we now have a “Palestinian” non-member observer state recognized by the United Nations — coming after Israel was rocketed with not a peep of protest from Mahmoud Abbas.

Palestine is a territory which historically had nothing to do with Arab people. In fact, it was Roman Emperor Hadrian who renamed the region Palestinia from Judea to punish the Jews after their defeat in the second Jewish insurrection against Rome. The original word Palestinia comes from the root word Philistia and the ancient Philistines were originally Greek.

After decades of good propaganda and a lack of historical understanding on the part of many, the United Nations has created something which has no historical basis. What is most disturbing is a terrorist organization, which is attacking a sovereign State, has now been awarded legitimacy.

Are any of these events a result of the President beginning his second term or is it all just a strange coincidence?

Congressman Allen West Weekly Wrap Up, Legislative Lowdown, Highlights in the District 12/2/12

AngAll

When Congressman Allen West was first elected 2 years ago he committed to his constituents that he would send them a detailed report each week as to what he was doing in his service for them, what the issues were that he was encountering and what progress he was making in addressing those issues. NO other Congressional Representative in the country does this. Even though Congressman West’s service as a Congressional Representative will end in January, even though NO other Congressional Representative bothers with such a report to those that they serve, Congressman West continues, steadfast and loyal, to meet his commitment to his constituents by generating this weekly wrap up. This man’s service in Congress will be sorely missed. Here is is weekly report for the week of 12-2-2012. – Larry Snowden

Dear Patriot,

Greetings to our constituents, fellow Floridians, and indeed all Americans, it is time to prepare our weekly update for dissemination.

While I enjoyed watching Georgia and Alabama battle it out for victory in the SEC Championship, the great contest in which our nation is engaged to ensure wealth expansion and economic growth remains part of the American way of life was never far from my mind. It seems this Administration has made its position very clear. Steadfast and Loyal,

Legislative Update:

– This Week

STEM Jobs Act of 2012—On Friday, the United States House of Representatives passed legislation to provide up to 55,000 green cards a year to new green card programs for foreign graduates of U.S. universities with advanced science, technology, engineering, or mathematics( STEM) degrees. H.R. 6429, which was approved by a vote of 245-139, I VOTED YES. This bill would create a new green card category for immigrants who have received STEM doctorates from U.S. universities. The bill would require immigrants to meet the certain eligibility requirements in order to apply for a STEM green card and require universities to meet certain requirements to be eligible institutions. The bill would also create a new green card category for immigrants who have received STEM master’s degrees from U.S. universities. The bill would allow foreign students to receive student visas to attend college in STEM fields without having to demonstrate that they have no desire to stay permanently in the U.S. Several changes were made to the bill as introduced, including expanding the “V” nonimmigrant visa program to allow the spouses and minor children of permanent residents to wait in the U.S. (without work authorization) for green cards to become available.

Rep. Allen West Statement on UN General Assembly Vote on Palestinian Statehood

254398_506903512653935_1890754365_n

(WASHINGTON)—Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today regarding the United Nations resolution upgrading the Palestinians’ status to a nonmember observer state at the United Nations, approved by a more than two-thirds majority of the 193-member world body — a vote of 138 to 9:

“Slowly but surely, hostile nations are tightening the noose around the sovereign State of Israel. Only those who are not students of history, Islam or the Muslim Brotherhood will be surprised by these actions.

It is naive to think this vote is solely about human rights or a homeland for Palestinian people. This vote is yet another step towards delegitimizing Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state with Jerusalem as its undivided capital.

When the cease-fire brokered by the Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egyptian government was announced, Hamas and the Palestinians celebrated it as a victory over Israel, not as a step towards peace.

The true intentions of nations such as Iran and Syria are one thing, but it is deeply disappointing when countries such as Austria, France, Italy, Norway and Spain vote in lockstep. It is unfortunate that so many in our own country, including those in this current administration, continue to ignore the reality.”

My Thoughts – The Allen West Family

by Tanya Grimsley – Allen West Republic

The West Family has been through some of the most difficult and daunting trials that no American and a family, no matter their party affiliation or belief should have ever have had to endure. From all directions the attacks, vitriol and lies were shameful and vile. While Congressman West has thick skin and enough courage to buck the establishment, it still takes it’s toll. Dr. Angela West has been a prime target as well. There is no shame in the levels that people went to in trying to destroy a solid family unit. The loathsome nasty behavior towards this family over a Congressional race was and still remains in my mind as revolting and left my heart hurting, I could never put myself in their shoes and can only imagine the pain that has been inflicted.

As I sit here tonight I ask the nation of grassroots support to lift this family up in prayer. Some may say “I pray for him and his family daily, or Prayers said” but tonight I ask after you finish reading this to say ONE quick prayer. Please.

Lord Jesus, I ask tonight for your precious hands to wrap around the West family, give them strength, courage and peace. Let them know that all around this country there are people who love them and care about them and the messages that they have brought to this nation. May your mighty and unfailing love for your children give them stability, comfort and endurance for the roads ahead. Instill in them the blessings of Isaiah 40:31 and “renew their strength, so they may soar on the wings like eagles; and run and not grow weary, and walk and not be faint” Lord, creator of all things, lift up this family tonight so they may be strong in their walk with you and be a driving force in your army. Renew and rejuvenate them with your peace that passes all understanding. I ask this in your most precious name, Amen.

CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WEST STATEMENT ON STATUS OF RACE

Stuart, FL – Congressman Allen West released the following statement regarding the election results certified today by the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections:

“Since Election Day we have been working for a fair and accurate accounting of the election outcome in which voters can put their full trust.  We will review the results of today’s recount and the other available data to determine how to proceed.  I have been humbled by the support we have received and the hard work of so many to ensure the integrity of this process.

We look forward to the report which will be issued by the Secretary of State’s auditors this coming week which we hope will shed light on some of the outstanding issues.”

Rep. Allen West released this statement today regarding the Hamas attacks on Israel”

(WASHINGTON)—Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today regarding the Hamas attacks on Israel”

“For the first time in some 20 years, enemy rockets and missiles have fallen near the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. The government of Israel has noted that, since the beginning of 2012, more than 768 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza, and over 12,000 in the past 12 years. Israel, like any nation, has the right to defend itself against such vicious attacks. There is no justification for the violence that Hamas and other terrorist organizations are employing against the people of Israel. I strongly condemn the actions of a known radical Islamic terrorist organization, Hamas.

Hamas claims to have the best interests of the Palestinian people at heart, yet it continues to engage in violence that does nothing but set back the Palestinian cause. Attacking Israel on a near daily basis does nothing to help Palestinians in Gaza, nor to move the Palestinian people any closer to achieving self-determination and independence. My greater concern is the alliance between the Muslim Brotherhood-controlled government of Egypt and Hamas. Egypt possesses a modern military force and if under the control of radical Islamists, namely Salafists and the Muslim Brotherhood, could pose a serious threat to Israel from the Sinai desert. Further exacerbating this situation are the unaccounted for shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles that escaped from Libya.

From the north, we must recognize the potential threat from Hasan Nasrallah and Hezbollah with their medium- and long-range rockets and missiles. Since the 11thanniversary of 9-11 United States Embassy and Consulate attacks, we have seen a growing threat in the Middle East. This threat, the common radical Islamic enemy of Israel and America, now feels emboldened from a foreign policy of appeasement, the so-called pivot from the Middle East, and a posture of “provocative weakness.” Indeed the enemies of Israel paid attention to actions, not words or phone calls, and since President Obama decided not to visit our best ally, they associated that with a green light.

Our best response at this time would be a demonstration of naval strength, such as to move an Amphibious Ready Group (ARG)/Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) into theater to provide a show of force in support of Israel. We also should have additional missile defense systems alerted for deployment.

Now is a time when Israel, the world, and their enemies must know, by action, that the United States of America will never abandon the State of Israel and that never again, truly means never again.
