Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 – Allen West: Out of the Foxhole

by Allen B. West

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, November 11, 2013 — After last week’s elections in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, the political pundit class had very unsurprising conclusions for the GOP. First, Governor Chris Christie will get the GOP presidential nomination in 2016. Second, the GOP needs to follow Christie’s model and become more moderate.

Therein lies the fundamental difference between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans play checkers, an impulsive, reactionary game while Democrats play chess. They develop a long strategic plan to be implemented incrementally, eventually attaining their objectives by any means necessary.

Saul Alinsky, the Chicago native, admitted Marxist and author of the book, Rules for Radicals is a legendary figure in the playbook of leftist, progressive tactics. Alinsky identified a set of very specific rules that ordinary citizens could follow as a means of gaining public power through revolution.

However, Alinsky’s brand of revolution was not characterized by dramatic, sweeping, or overnight transformations of social institutions. Instead Alinsky advocated a gradual infiltration of existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties. Alinsky advised organizers and their disciples to quietly, subtly gain influence within the decision-making ranks of these institutions, and to slowly introduce changes from those platforms.

To use a southern metaphor, this is just like boiling a frog. You don’t throw the frog into a pot of hot water. You have to put the frog into a pot of cold water and slowly turn up the temperature. It’s a long term strategy.

But the GOP defines strategy as telling everyone to be more like Governor Christie. (Click below to continue)

Well, the results are in and so it’s time for a little assessment.

Let’s start with New York. Good luck, you just voted in a Marxist/socialist, and you thought David Dinkins was bad? I know there are some very eclectic folks in New York City but what were the free market capitalists thinking?

Next door in New Jersey, everyone pretty much saw this woodshed coming for Governor Christie.

Allen West ” Instead of a swanky dinner with GOP Senators, they should have ordered some Chick-fil-A”

by Allen West via Facebook

Everyone is talking about the dinner meeting last night with President Obama and several GOP Senators. Now I wonder if those fellas paid for that dinner themselves, or charged it to the American taxpayer? I would have preferred the President take a lesson from the movie “Dave.” Just find a simple person, a good CPA, and go line by line through the federal budget. What a great scene that was. Instead of these folks going out for a swanky dinner, they should have ordered some Chick-fil-A with the sweet tea on their own dime and locked themselves in a room with 2-3 CPAs and this morning announce they found $400B/yr to trim off the federal budget over the next ten years. OK, a fella can dream, can’t he?

Justifying Conservatism – Are You a Messenger or a Hindrance?

conservatism

by: Tanya Grimsley

Recently throughout my travels in the social networks I have discovered even more discord now then I did before the selection of Mitt Romney as the GOP candidate for 2012. I find myself wondering why some days and can come to only a few conclusions which are strictly my personal views or things that I have actually seen transpire among conversations that I witnessed.

In the world of social networking there are a few things that I have noticed more than others. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, on their own profiles.  To the numerous friends throughout whichever network you are on determines when it becomes another’s right to interject their thoughts and opinion. Herein lies a problem. In a group setting, a group is normally set up with a main topic as the core for the group. I will use for example “Allen West Republic” on Facebook. With its many members and diverse opinions, the structure which is based on the Allen West brand of conservatism can be many things to many people. Albeit the creators intentions were to keep things soundly about the message of Allen West and the things that he talks about. That is not always the case within this, or any group.

Everyone brings something different to the table when you are socializing. There are the strong-willed people, who believe only what they believe. There is no changing their minds. There are the middle ground folks who interact with everything and everyone to get the best circulating opinions. Then they take it to their friend’s and other groups or social networks. Then there is the meek minded, they tend to watch and never comment. They are generally clicking like on everything just to appease everyone because they are not quite sure where they themselves stand. In the end they are looking for the strongest, wisest answer to appear out of the conversation.

There are bloggers who have interests that are different from those who do not blog. Then there are those that aggregate articles from all over the internet. They take and post what is foremost on their minds. The ones that I love are the ones with a strong solid message. They stick to it, everyday, it is their niche’ it is what they do. They know it like the back of their own hand. They can answer any question or have anything you need available at almost a moments notice.

Willingness to help seems to be of short hand lately.  Since the GOP lost the election (no matter who or what the reason was – we lost) the divisiveness among people  is sad.  How do we ever expect to unite under a given umbrella at any point in time if we do nothing? How does passing the message of our own personal opinions and not taking criticism or listening to others views helpful? Why does everything become a battle among who is right and who is wrong? The message of unity is not sound, we do not reach out to one another, we are being selfish, stuck up snobs and its just getting worse.

How do we change it? Better yet………. will you take the time and change it? Do you see yourself as one who needs to change?

1. Conservatism – Conservatives

2. 100% Tea Party – Conservatives

3. GOP – Conservatives (not everyone who claims Republican/GOP is a RINO)

4. Libertarian – Conservatives (yes, I have numerous friends who are)

Look deep my friends. We are not uniting, we are not learning from this past election. If we throw in the towel, whether you are saying it was a million different things, there is no changing them.  We have and are certainly accepting defeat for ourselves and the next generations to follow. I ask you to look at your conversations. Especially those lately. How many times have you “given up” or said “he who counts the votes controls the outcome” or this one “my candidate should have been the GOP nominee and we wouldn’t have lost”. There are many more things I could list here.  I will refrain for now.

The conservative umbrella is HUGE. The effects that are rolling downhill have picked up a strong and steady pace. We are not only in jeopardy of losing again in 2016,  we also will greatly affect the many generations who come after us. I am not saying that standing by your personal opinions is wrong. What I am saying is unless we get to the roots of our problems as a whole. Address how to take this conservative banner forward as one, then we will lose our Republic.  We are hanging on a thread right now. The tyranny we see before us daily should have us in masses reaching out to those we  don’t see talking about things but are all over the social networks. We should be educating the young ones while there is still the opportunity.

I am a Bible believing, God-fearing, conservative. Daughter, Sister, Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and friend. There is nothing too big for God to fix. There is nothing that we are going through at this stage in our country that we can’t get ourselves out of with His help. Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”  No matter the circumstances surrounding us now, or how outnumbered, how defeated, how depressed you may feel. The only way we can get through this together is to unite the entire conservative umbrella.

That starts with pointing the fingers at ourselves and saying……… am I just a blogger dumping my messages everywhere and never taking the time to go back and interact in a non confrontational manner?

Am I just a confrontation starter, you don’t see it my way so I will pound you verbally until you go away?

Or am I just the fence straddler, afraid to say how I feel? Do I let the other people affect how I will come to a conclusion on a given subject?

The point being, we must all take time to see the bigger picture. He or she may be “smarter” in certain things than I am.  Should that ever prevent someone from asking a question? The fear of being made a fool of  is a solid fear, whether by the person who posted or those participating in a  comment thread.  How do we expect to get our message to the young people before the next voting cycle when we can’t even treat each other as sources of knowledge instead of always being combative?

As always, looking for your comments. Your ideas. Thoughts and opinions. Trying to justify a behavior for the past conversations is not what this is about. It is where do we as a collective go from here. Also, why these other situations and behaviors must end.

I know there will be many people reading who won’t stop and see they are at fault, or even consider themselves in any way a part of the divisiveness. This will continue to tear the cause of conservatism apart. We have less than four years to get this right. Focus people, its the only chance we have. It starts with ourselves

As the World Turns……..We must also. The Future of the GOP —- Part 1

This is just a small page and as such it relies, at least for now, on the observations and words of one person — me. Feel free to open your mind and reply prodigiously because I believe in the androgogical (made up word meaning you learn from me and I learn from you) rather than the pedagogical (you learn only from me) experience. As you know, I reply to many comments!!!!

Yesterday, I asked you to read the New York Times article which inquired as to whether the Republicans as heading towards obsolescence. I know that many of you have “in-boxed” me to say “I never read the Times”; “The Times is too left leaning for me”;”Not interested in THAT paper”; but I ask you: IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST, HOW IN THE WORLD WILL YOU BE ABLE TO WIN AGAIN!!!!!! I will now lower my voice. Boxers study their opponent, they know where to hit, when and how hard. GOOD managers of basketball, football, hockey and any professional sporting team will spend hours studying even the most minute movement in order to exploit a “hole” in the strategy. They will ruthlessly search films in “slo-mo”, “freeze-frame” and simulation for hours in order to gain a scintilla of advantage.

And you know what? In the “game” of sports — (I have two daughters but grew up in a household consisting of several brothers and when I say several I mean more than 4) so I know people understand this analogy. Going back, in any game of sports, the winner takes all. The winning coaches are invited back, the losers are sent packing. It is a system that will reward the winner and therefore teach the loser to be a winner, eventually. Very interesting concept — you learn from your mistakes and don’t continue to “dig in” — diggin’ in another concept that will lead you straight to the bottom.

Now you say “Angela why are you talking about the coaches and not the players?”; Well because many things can befall a player (injury, bad luck etc..), the player is interested in the tactical side of the house. He/She realizes that the task at hand is what is important. The “tactical “strategy” of a player is often a very personal one and very, very important because each piece will contribute to the “whole”. Now the coach, on the other hand, is concerned with the “strategic” side of the house. Also termed “the long game” or “the big picture”, the leadership of the team — coaches, managers, and ultimately owners are looking at each hierarchical level at the team; league and the franchise as a whole.

The winning team, business and political party will make decisions based upon “strategical” implications and not the individual whims and ambitions of one player………. I am only in business, my readers, but this mantra will hold true for any endeavor —– If you apply tactical thinking to a strategic problem, you will lose, lose lose. And eventually, you will be out of existence — either by attrition or by design.

So, now you ask (I know that this is a burning question), “How can we identify those characteristics that lead us to lose?” Well, let me give you some of the characteristics of the losing team and the words they use……

1. The loser will subconsciously admit to losing by trying to distance him/herself with the team that they are on. For example, they will register as “independents”, put down their own party, and “secretly” vote Republican. Their bumper stickers are peeled off for fear of being “attacked”; they shyly whisper “I’m Republican” or refer to themselves as “Rockefeller Republicans” often to people who do not know one iota about what they are speaking about and could not care less. The real reason they do this is because they want to distinguish themselves from the “Tea Party Republicans” who they view as …… well….. not them.

2. They give up. I watch March Madness and ultimately the Final Four cheering for the little teams . The “Cinderella Story” ,so to speak, of the tiny school in a rural state where the whole school shows to to support the team. From this side of the court, you will witness passion, cohesiveness and desire. Beautiful thing to behold. These are winners. People, the point here is not for you to send me stories about small teams who win the game —– follow me here….. In 2010 we saw a winning revitalized Republican bench. Then the reason for the winning bench was excoriated, on both sides. We gave up and allowed the ambitions of a few to lead the way. Those who speak up, were told to “shut the $%#* up” and became silent. The concept of smaller government, religious freedom, constitutional rights and conservationism gave way to “shut up and go along” —- Lunch is being served at the Capital Hill Club at noon so lets get this out of the way. “They like me again”, get real, they don’t — the play-ground is where you first realize that it is better to go home with a torn dress, busted shoes and your hair in a tither than be “punked”. I remember as a daughter of a military member, my family moved often until we went to Germany. Every time you showed up somewhere, especially in some of the rougher states, another student would challenge you to something… often a fight of some sort. I remember the words “Angela Graham we gon’ meet you at bus stop 2” —- be there….As the bus pulled out of the school I remember feeling scared, real scared, removing my earrings, tying my hair back, and methodically getting myself ready for the “beat down”. I put a wad of gum in my mouth — not sure what that was for but it “looked” tough, tennis shoes on and I was “ready” to get off at bus stop 2. I was never in a fight (that day). Showed up, looked tough and did not back down (also remember the “several” brothers). So…..show up, don’t give up and of course have people around you who have your back-up. —- Not faking it.

3. DO NOT ADMIT DEFEAT! Do not fly the white flag unless you are under attack, comrades down or in trouble, and you have no other option. What do I mean about “flying the white flag?” Using the words of the opposition such as “Middle Class” — we do not live in a caste society; using words such as “they won’t vote for us anyways” — how do you know unless you try?; I can’t stand to listen/read/watch/debate anything they say —- they are “stupid”. —- They are not, they are well educated, well funded and technologically astute, but that does not mean we “get off at bus stop 1” —- lets stop getting “punked”.

In parting, read this for the content and meaning. Please, no old sports homilies, Pass it around, get involved, get technologically savvy. And forget the pundits. All the while we comforted ourselves looking at Karl Rove’s “whiteboard” which is reminiscent of the boards used by Ross Perot, they had cool tech savvy and smart, Nate Silver debunking our cozy, fire-side apple pie complacency that people wanted to return to the “Good ol’ Days” —– when you see me, understand that the “good ole days” were not so good for the likes of me. Cookin’ and cleanin’ , not putting those activities down — are necessary — so much so that I work extra hard to pay for it, but those two gems are admittedly not my strong suit Mizz Scarlett. (SMILE); (LOL).

Allen West and Tamon Pearson Discuss “Is the GOP the Party of Graying Old People?” @mrpearson247

TamonP

In 2011, Tamon Pearson wrote an article comparing the GOP to the Soul Train Awards, in which he argued that the GOP was in danger of becoming as irrelevant to young people as its aging counterparts on the music show. So what does the GOP need to do to remain relevant, and expand its base of appeal? Allen West talks to Tamon about his critiques and the two find common ground.

Is the GOP the Party of Graying Old People?

Allen West “The NY Times is at it again, calling the GOP in disarray and racist”

westfoxsm

by Allen West via Facebook Status Update

It seems some writer at the NY Times is at it again, calling the GOP in disarray and racist. Perhaps this gent needs a little history lesson. The Democrat party gave America slavery, secession, segregation, and socialism. Jim Crow laws, poll tax, literacy tests, and providing women checks for having children out of wedlock are further examples of Democrat policies. President Lincoln broke the chains of physical bondage. President Reagan broke the chains of economic bondage. The writer thinks the GOP is in disarray, but it’s thanks to liberal progressive policies emanating from the Obama administration that America is in disarray. The demise of our economic, energy, and national security are evident and the State of our Union is horrific. I would much rather be a member of a political party that rewards my individual industrialism, than one which promotes my individual subjugation.

Rep Allen West – Statement “Sinking the Marine Industry: How Regulations are Affecting Today’s Martime Business”

WASHINGTON)—  Congressman Allen West (R-FL) chaired a hearing entitled “Sinking the Marine Industry:  How Regulations are Affecting Today’s Martime Business” as part of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations Thursday on Capitol Hill.  Inland waterways and ports are often the lifeblood of the economies of the regions in which they are located.  Members of Congress heard testimony from experts and small business owners on the most pressing impediments to job creation and economic growth in the maritime industry and discussed solutions to those problems.

West’s constituent, Kristina Hebert, Chief Operating Officer, Ward’s Marine Electric, Inc,. in Fort Lauderdale, testified on behalf of the United States Superyacht Association. Hebert, whose family business has been in operation since trhe 1950’s,  has many concerns, in particular the regulations imposed on the maritime industry through the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act.

“The new rules have created confusion in both the recreational marine repair industry and the insurance industry,” Hebert said.  “The misapplication of the exemption brought thousands of workers under the duplicative coverage or even worse left them without any coverage at all. For these reasons, the rulemaking seriously missed the mark and will serve only to cost American jobs and drive economic activity offshore.”

The hearing allowed for a wide-ranging examination of regulatory actions by the Department of Labor, the planning and permitting processes for the United States Army Corps of Engineers maintenance of navigable waterways, and intra-state taxation of small businesses.

“Representing a sizeable chunk of our working population, I see no better time to zero in on the industry which is paramount to our way of life in South Florida and throughout the nation,” West said.  “I have heard from many in the marine industry in South Florida who say regulations are creating a toxic business environment for them.  Builders, manufacturers, retailers, craftsmen, technicians and suppliers– they all have the same frustration- the federal government preventing them from hiring and growing their businesses.”
