Allen West Accepts Debate Invitation, Calls on Patrick Murphy to Face the Voters

Stuart, FL – Today Congressman Allen West accepted an invitation from the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and Palm Beach State College to debate Democrat nominee Patrick Murphy.  Allen West for Congress released the following statement calling on Patrick Murphy to do the same:

“Our nation faces enormous challenges and voters are looking for serious solutions.  The voters of Palm Beach County deserve an opportunity to cast an educated ballot and the opportunity to witness substantive debates that get beyond talking points and scripted speeches,” said Congressman West.  “I welcome this opportunity to compare my ideas and solutions to my opponent’s lack thereof.”

“It’s time for Patrick Murphy to face the voters and stop hiding behind young children and his father’s racist, vile attack ads.  Spewing hate, discredited lies and poll-tested talking points will not get the nation back on track,” said West Campaign Manager Tim Edson. “It’s time for Patrick Murphy to grow up, accept this debate invitation and take part in a serious conversation on the issues.”

Allen West continues to stand by his challenge for four televised debates open to the public and looks forward to debating Murphy in each county comprising Florida’s 18th Congressional District.

Rep. Allen West “SITEREP – West for Congress – August Edition

Dear Friends,

It has been an exciting and busy few weeks here in South Florida. We won our primary election with 74 percent of the vote and we now have a strong team in Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan to take the helm of this great ship of state and restore our nation’s greatness and prosperity. The combination of Mitt Romney’s successful record in business and government, and Paul Ryan’s legislative experience and willingness to lead on pressing fiscal problems is just the recipe to get America back on the right path.

I would also like to congratulate all our Republican nominees for state and local office for their victories last Tuesday. The hard road lies ahead, and success will not be ours without the passion and drive of our supporters and volunteers – each and every one of you.

On a personal note, I am humbled by the overwhelming support from the Republican voters of the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, and I am honored to be your Republican nominee for Florida’s 18th Congressional District. Our campaign was successful because we are committed to standing up for conservative principles, and voters want statesmen who have the courage to say what they mean, and mean what they say.

Voters along the Treasure Coast – and indeed the nation – are faced with two very clear choices, and two dramatically different visions for the future of our Republic and that of our children and grandchildren. The results of the November election will determine the legacy we leave to our families. Will it be one of ever-higher unemployment, crushing debt, near-universal dependence on government handouts, porous borders that allow anyone and everyone to feed from the government trough and force the bankruptcy of programs like Social Security and Medicare?

Or will it be a return to our constitutional principles of economic freedom and individual sovereignty, in a country where we have the liberty to prosper without being punished for our success, keep our promises to our seniors, fully utilize our domestic energy resources and once again ensure peace through strength?

Of course, Patrick Murphy is big on criticism and short on ideas. That is why he has refused to debate. Over the weekend his “strategist” said he will not participate in any debate where rebuttals are permitted! I have no doubt that is because he will be lost once he gets off Nancy Pelosi’s talking points!

Predictably, Patrick Murphy (and the left-wing Super PAC funded by this father) has wasted no time in running negative advertising against me because he is incapable of addressing the issues. He talks about “compromise” and “fairness” which are essentially code words for saying whatever he needs to get elected. Once in office, Murphy will simply rubber stamp the policies of 0bama and Pelosi.

Last week Republican voters along the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches turned out in huge numbers to demonstrate they know which vision is right for our country, and which will be victorious in November. We’re energized, motivated, and ready to restore fiscal responsibility, individual sovereignty and economic freedom to this great nation. I am honored to stand with you here in Florida and represent you in Washington D.C. Together we will send a powerful message on November 6th.

Allen West

Allen West’s Campaign Manager, Tim Edson, released this statement regarding Murphy’s desperate and increasingly ridiculous excuses

Stuart, FL –  Today West for Congress Campaign Manager, Tim Edson, released this statement regarding Patrick Murphy’s desperate and increasingly ridiculous excuses for refusing four substantive debates with Allen West:

“On August 15th, Allen West challenged Patrick Murphy to four substantive televised debates open to the public.  Murphy spent several days desperately searching for debate hosts and formats he believed to be favorable.  His response made clear he is trying to dodge serious debates with Allen West.

Now Murphy is refusing to debate Allen West if rebuttals are included in the format. Apparently Patrick Murphy is unfamiliar with the purpose of a debate.  Without rebuttals, Patrick Murphy would be able to mindlessly repeat the talking points of Nancy Pelosi and his political handlers.

Patrick Murphy doesn’t want to debate because he knows he will embarrass himself, given his ignorance on the issues. Instead, Patrick Murphy wants to hide behind his father’s dishonest, racist attack ads and political handlers who tell him what to say, when to say it and how to say it.  Patrick Murphy is an empty suit. He feels entitled and expects his father to buy him a seat in the United States House of Representatives.

Considering Patrick Murphy and his campaign are so dependent on his father, if it would make Patrick Murphy more comfortable to have his father at his side, Allen West would be happy to debate both of them at the same time.”

Allen West’s debate challenge stands. The West Campaign looks forward to negotiating the details of four substantive debates. The moderators should be unbiased, the debates should be open to the public and they should be televised. It’s time for Patrick Murphy to tell voters where he stands on the issues.

Rep. Allen West “Stand with me and take a stand against the politics of personal destruction” Reprehensible!

Attack Ad Depicts Allen West Beating Women, Stealing

Dear Friends,

Disgusting — that’s the best word that can be used to describe the latest attack ad funded by my Democrat opponent Patrick Murphy’s father.

I spent my life in uniform fighting for our great nation and protecting all Americans. The ad being run against me by my opponent’s family depicting violence against women and senior citizens is reprehensible. It plays on stereotypes and fear to divide Americans, and it cheapens the very real and tragic occurrences of violence against women and seniors.

Stand with me and take a stand against the politics of personal destruction.

The American people are suffering from crushing debt, horrific tax and regulatory policies, and epic unemployment. This classless ad shows a lack of regard for the issues plaguing our nation.
This ad reflects the sad state of politics in our Republic with those who seek to destroy a person’s character to cover for their lack of intellectual ability and integrity.

Liberals have proven they will stop at nothing to defeat me in November. Help send the message you’re ready to fight back. Will you donate $35 or more to take a stand against these shameful ads?

Steadfast and Loyal,

LTC (R) Allen B. West
Member of Congress

P.S. We still need your help to reach our $50,000 goal by Tuesday. Now is the perfect time to donate and take a stand against these reprehensible attacks. Donate here:

The Need for Boots on the Ground for Rep Allen West is NOW! We Need You TODAY!

Dear Friend,

We are in need of more and more volunteers to make phone calls and walk door to door.

This Thursday, Friday and Saturday we are looking to have shifts covered by volunteers from 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm and 5pm-9pm.  This will include volunteers to make calls from the West Palm Beach Victory Office as well as walk door to door.  For door to door efforts, we are asking volunteers to meet at the West Palm Beach Victory Office to pick up walk books.

We are looking to continue this work on Sunday during 1PM-5PM

Monday we will again need volunteers 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm and 5pm-9pm.

This will be one big push to increase the turnout in the primary election.  We need as many volunteers as we can possibly get.  My days will be filled with volunteer recruitment calls and it would be a tremendous help if you can contact the people you know as well.

If you are able to, please encourage people to help out with these efforts.  I will be at the West Palm Beach Office on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to help with these efforts.

We also want to have 4 yard signs at every single voting location in the district to be put out the night before the election.  If we can get people to help drive around and place them at polling locations in their area, I will deliver the signs to them as well as a list of polling places in their community.  The more the better.  I will be putting signs at every polling location the night before that we can not get covered by a volunteer, so the more help we can get the better.

Thank you for all of your help.

Rep Allen West: Legislative Update

– FY2013 Appropriations — Last Thursday, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 5326, the Commerce and Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, by a vote of 247-163, I VOTED YES.  The bill would provide $51.131 billion in discretionary appropriations for agencies and programs funded through the Commerce/Justice/Science appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2013. Funding provided under the legislation would be $1.61 billion or 3 percent below the amount of funding provided for Fiscal Year 2012. The amount of funding provided is $731 million or 1.4 percent below the amount requested by the President for Fiscal Year 2013.  The Commerce/Justice/Science appropriations bill provides funding for the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, and Federal science agencies, such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), and related agencies. Appropriations for Justice programs in the bill provides money for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as the Federal Prison System and the U.S. Marshals Service.

– Replacing the Sequester — Also on Thursday, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 5652, the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012, by a vote of 218-199, I VOTED YES.  The bill would provide mandatory spending reductions in order to replace automatic cuts to discretionary spending (primarily from defense accounts) in 2013 under the Budget Control Act and to reduce the deficit. The savings generated from these reforms to mandatory programs would first be used to offset the approximately $78 billion cost of replacing the automatic across-the-board discretionary spending cuts that are scheduled to occur on January 2, 2013, under what is known as sequestration. The amount of $78 billion reflects the remainder of the Fiscal Year 2013 discretionary sequester after accounting for lowering the Fiscal Year 2013 discretionary cap from $1.047 to $1.028 as provided for in the House of Representatives-approved Budget Resolution. The additional savings achieved through reconciliation beyond the $78 billion (over $180 billion in the next ten years) would further reduce the deficit.  Savings contained in the legislation were produced by six House of Representatives committees under reconciliation instructions contained in the House Concurrent Budget Resolution (H. Con. Res. 112).  The Committees on (1) Agriculture, (2) Energy & Commerce, (3) Financial Services, (4) the Judiciary, (5) Oversight & Government Reform, and (6) Ways & Means each produced deficit reduction legislation pursuant to the reconciliation instructions in section 201 of the House of Representatives-approved budget resolution.  Legislation produced by these committees and contained in this package would produce savings of $18.3 billion in the first year, $116.3 billion over five years, and $261.4 billion over ten years.

This Week:

– National Defense — The House of Representatives is scheduled to consider H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2013. The bill would provide valuable funding for the Armed Forces, while proposing significant savings that do not compromise the needs of our nation’s war fighters by authorizing $554 billion for National Defense and $88 billion for Overseas Contingency Operation Funds.  Among other items, the bill would provide funds to modernize three guided missile cruisers scheduled to be retired before the end of their service life; would preserve tactical airlift critical to the ability of the United States to project power, such as C-130 Hercules and C-27J Spartan aircraft proposed for early retirement; and would ease strain on the heavily stressed military by slowing the pace of the Obama administration’s end-strength reductions.

– Protecting Women — Also this week, the House of Representatives is expected to consider a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The bill would provide for a five-year reauthorization of VAWA, which expired on September 30, 2011, and would set total program funding levels at $682.5 million per year.  The House of Representatives bill would streamline and consolidate some grants for maximum benefit, increase resources for sexual assault investigations, prosecutions, and victim services, protect victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, promote educational awareness to prevent violence and improve services for young victims, improve emergency and transitional housing services for victims, and enhance immigration laws to protect victims of violence.
