VIDEO – At First Forum, Allen West Deals in Ideas and Facts, Patrick Murphy In Dishonest Talking Points

Now We See Why Patrick Murphy Won’t Debate

Stuart, FL – It is now even more clear why Patrick Murphy refuses debates–he has nothing to say other than memorized talking points.  West for Congress Campaign Manager Tim Edson released the following statement regarding the clear contrast between Allen West and Patrick Murphy at today’s St. Lucie County League of Women Voter’s Forum:

“After weeks of running from debates and forums Patrick Murphy had to face Allen West today.  Murphy originally agreed to participate in this forum knowing that votes were scheduled in the House of Representatives and Allen West wouldn’t be able to participate.  Unfortunately for Patrick Murphy, the House calendar changed allowing West to attend.

Those in attendance were presented a clear choice between Allen West, a leader who has served our nation and put principles and solutions before partisan politics, and an empty suit in Patrick Murphy who repeats scripted talking points about bringing people together, only to expose his lack of ideas and hypocrisy at every turn by attacking Allen West with lies and divisive smears.

From the outset, Allen West had command of the issues, put forward solutions, and talked in detail about the issues facing the Treasure Coast.  A nervous Patrick Murphy stuck to his script and outlined in the vaguest terms his support for Obamacare, the failed stimulus that lined his family’s pockets, and job-destroying tax increases while continually glancing at his handlers and family for approval.  With the serious challenges facing the nation, Floridians need a leader, not another bad actor like Patrick Murphy.

In just over two weeks, Patrick Murphy will have to face Allen West in a real debate. Murphy might want to start learning the issues because, despite Murphy’s best efforts to exclude them, this debate will include rebuttals and Murphy will quickly be off script.  Just like his campaign, when Murphy gets off script he’ll go completely off the rails.”

Murphy continues to trail in the polls by double digits despite millions in left-wing Super PAC attacks and Murphy’s father’s racist attack ads.  Desperate and behind in the polls, the Murphy campaign grows increasingly shrill and divisive day by day.

Murphy Staffer has Meltdown at Candidate Forum – Lashes out at event moderator – Allen West for Congress

Stuart, FL – On Monday night at the Coalition of Sandpiper Bay Associations (COSBA) Candidates Forum 2012 in Pt. St Lucie, a senior staffer for Patrick Murphy’s congressional campaign had a public meltdown after the organizers allowed a statement from Allen West to be read aloud at the event.

In accordance with the Forum rules, a candidate is allowed 3 minutes for a closing comment, and may use that time however he or she sees fit. For her closing statement, Representative Gayle Harrell, who is running for re-election in Florida House District 81, yielded 2 minutes of her time to read West’s statement, just before Murphy took to the stage.

A visibly nervous Murphy then took to the microphone for his turn at the Forum. At the event’s close, one of Murphy’s staffers approached Richard McAfoos, the event moderator, and loudly and rudely berated him for allowing the statement, accusing McAfoos of unfairness, saying it violated their trust and damaged the integrity of the organization.

“I was frankly shocked to hear the comments from Patrick Murphy’s staff, but it’s clear Murphy and his team are growing increasingly angry and desperate,” said Michele Hickford, West for Congress press secretary, “Mr. McAfoos is a true gentleman, and the event was very professionally and fairly run. If the Murphy camp gets this upset over a written statement from Allen West, I can only imagine how unhinged they’ll be when Allen West is actually in the same room. No wonder Patrick Murphy has been hiding ever since Allen West issued a challenge for debates across the Treasure Coast open to the public.”

Here is the statement in its entirety:

“Greetings to all the members of the Sandpiper Bay Associations attending the candidates’ forum tonight. I’m sorry I can’t be with you in person as I am out of state.

But I am definitely with you in spirit – the spirit we share as fellow citizens of this great nation.

On the sixth of November, you will be called upon to choose the direction and future of these United States of America. You will not simply be choosing one candidate or another, you will be choosing the future direction of our Republic.

The question is not whether one candidate is nicer or more likable or even easier to relate to. The fundamental question you must ask yourself is what sort of a nation shall we be? And what does it mean to be an American?

Some will say the government must try “new ideas” in order to get our nation back on track. But these “new ideas” are nothing more than a repeat of failed liberal progressive policies, which have never succeeded anywhere they’ve been tried.

In this election, I pray my fellow Americans will wake up to the reality of what lies ahead if we do not reform our mandatory spending programs, reduce the regulatory red tape strangling our small businesses, institute sound fiscal and tax policies, and slow down the growth of the welfare nanny-state.

Throughout this nation’s history, our greatest prosperity has come when our citizens had unfettered freedom to innovate, build and expand, and our government focused on its most important role – that of ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

My fellow Americans, I hope you will choose wisely this November, not just for yourself, but for your children and your grandchildren. God bless you all, and God bless the United States of America.”

Allen West Accepts League of Women Voters Forum in Fort Pierce – Will Murphy Run and Hide?

Stuart, FL – Today West for Congress confirmed that due to Congressional schedule changes, Allen West will participate in a candidate forum with Democrat nominee Patrick Murphy hosted by The League of Women Voters of St. Lucie County. The forum will be held at the St. Lucie County Commissioners Chamber at 2300 Virginia Avenue in Ft. Pierce on Thursday, October 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It is open to the public.

“Though Patrick Murphy continues to duck real debates, I am pleased voters will have the opportunity to finally compare the candidates on substance.  I have been calling for multiple debates since August and while this isn’t a debate, at least it is an opportunity for voters to hear from both candidates.  I hope Patrick Murphy still decides to attend,” said Allen West.
According to Allen West for Congress campaign manager Tim Edson, “We can only imagine the fear and anxiety coming from Patrick Murphy’s campaign now that we have accepted the invitation to participate in the League of Women Voters forum next week. Patrick Murphy has done everything he possibly can to avoid actually facing voters and defending his positions on the failed economic policies of Obama and Pelosi, but that ends on Thursday.
Murphy’s entire campaign has consisted of racist smears, lies and every poll-tested talking point you would expect to hear from a politician.   We know Patrick Murphy is too ignorant to talk about the issues and defend his support for Obamacare and its $700 billion cut to Medicare.  We know Murphy’s family business profited from the failed stimulus, brought in foreign workers to do the jobs of Americans, and is named in a class action lawsuit for installing dangerous Chinese drywall.  Taken together with the latest revelation that Patrick Murphy was arrested for public intoxication and possession of stolen property after being thrown out of a South Beach Miami nightclub for fighting and verbally assaulting police officers, it becomes increasing clear why Murphy wants to hide.
Without the protection of his father’s millions and left-wing Super PACs, voters will finally be able to see Patrick Murphy for who he really is: the emptiest of empty suits.  Will Murphy show, or will he run and hide?”

First Murphy Hides from Debates, Now He Lies About Debates – Rep. Allen West

Stuart, FL – Yesterday Patrick Murphy was on Hardball with Chris Matthews attacking Allen West and claiming that West had refused four debates. West for Congress Campaign Manager Tim Edson released the following statement:

“With every passing day, it becomes more clear that Patrick Murphy may very well rank among the most unqualified, cowardly and dishonest individuals ever to run for Congress. Patrick Murphy’s claim that Allen West is avoiding debates is beyond ridiculous given the fact that Allen West challenged Patrick Murphy to four debates.

The truth is that Patrick Murphy doesn’t want his ignorance to be exposed. That’s why Murphy demanded ‘debates’ without rebuttals. Murphy refused debates open to the public. Then Murphy demanded closed door meetings with his left-wing editorial board supporters. After that Murphy attacked respected organizations like the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches for offering to host a debate. Under public pressure, he finally agreed to one late October debate, but then Murphy tried to stipulate the footage could not be reused. Most telling, Murphy refused to participate if candidates were permitted to ask direct questions to each other.

We know Patrick Murphy is unable to talk about the issues and simply unable to defend his support for President Obama’s failed policies. The more we learn about Murphy’s family business profiting from the failed stimulus Murphy supports and bringing in foreign workers to do the jobs of Americans, it becomes increasing clear his claims of being an upstanding businessman are built on shaky foundations and his claims of personally being a job creator are simply laughable.”

Allen West’s challenge for four debates open to the public still stands. It’s time for Patrick Murphy to stop hiding and stop lying, and start addressing the issues.

Allen West Accepts Debate Invitation from the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and Palm Beach State College

Allen West Accepts Debate Invitation, Calls on Patrick Murphy to Face the Voters

Stuart, FL – Today Congressman Allen West accepted an invitation from the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and Palm Beach State College to debate Democrat nominee Patrick Murphy.  Allen West for Congress released the following statement calling on Patrick Murphy to do the same:

“Our nation faces enormous challenges and voters are looking for serious solutions.  The voters of Palm Beach County deserve an opportunity to cast an educated ballot and the opportunity to witness substantive debates that get beyond talking points and scripted speeches,” said Congressman West.  “I welcome this opportunity to compare my ideas and solutions to my opponent’s lack thereof.”

“It’s time for Patrick Murphy to face the voters and stop hiding behind young children and his father’s racist, vile attack ads.  Spewing hate, discredited lies and poll-tested talking points will not get the nation back on track,” said West Campaign Manager Tim Edson. “It’s time for Patrick Murphy to grow up, accept this debate invitation and take part in a serious conversation on the issues.”

Allen West continues to stand by his challenge for four televised debates open to the public and looks forward to debating Murphy in each county comprising Florida’s 18th Congressional District.

Allen West’s Campaign Manager, Tim Edson, released this statement regarding Murphy’s desperate and increasingly ridiculous excuses

Stuart, FL –  Today West for Congress Campaign Manager, Tim Edson, released this statement regarding Patrick Murphy’s desperate and increasingly ridiculous excuses for refusing four substantive debates with Allen West:

“On August 15th, Allen West challenged Patrick Murphy to four substantive televised debates open to the public.  Murphy spent several days desperately searching for debate hosts and formats he believed to be favorable.  His response made clear he is trying to dodge serious debates with Allen West.

Now Murphy is refusing to debate Allen West if rebuttals are included in the format. Apparently Patrick Murphy is unfamiliar with the purpose of a debate.  Without rebuttals, Patrick Murphy would be able to mindlessly repeat the talking points of Nancy Pelosi and his political handlers.

Patrick Murphy doesn’t want to debate because he knows he will embarrass himself, given his ignorance on the issues. Instead, Patrick Murphy wants to hide behind his father’s dishonest, racist attack ads and political handlers who tell him what to say, when to say it and how to say it.  Patrick Murphy is an empty suit. He feels entitled and expects his father to buy him a seat in the United States House of Representatives.

Considering Patrick Murphy and his campaign are so dependent on his father, if it would make Patrick Murphy more comfortable to have his father at his side, Allen West would be happy to debate both of them at the same time.”

Allen West’s debate challenge stands. The West Campaign looks forward to negotiating the details of four substantive debates. The moderators should be unbiased, the debates should be open to the public and they should be televised. It’s time for Patrick Murphy to tell voters where he stands on the issues.

Congressman Allen West has just challenged his Democrat opponent Patrick Murphy to four debates

“To ensure the voters are provided an opportunity to hear exactly where you stand, I challenge you to a series of four debates: one debate in each of the three counties that encompass the 18th Congressional District, and the fourth debate in the geographical center of the district in Martin County,” West wrote in a letter to Patrick Murphy.

“Each debate will have a separate and specific focus: two debates will focus on economic security, another on energy security and the final on national security,” West added.
