Allen West to Holder “What Fast and Furious has to do with is misleading the Congress and the American people”

Florida Republican Rep. Allen West told The Daily Caller on Monday that Attorney General Eric Holder’s use of the race card as a way to attack those who are criticizing him is “reprehensible.”

“I think this is absolutely the last card in the deck, and that shows how weak their ground is,” West said in a phone interview. “But, what that means is they want to make white individuals afraid of continuing to put the pressure on Eric Holder because they don’t want to be seen as racist, and that is something that we have got to move beyond.”

Holder had told The New York Times over the weekend, in a front page Sunday story, that he thinks those who are criticizing him have racial motivations to do so. Holder said some unspecified faction — what he refers to as the “more extreme segment” — is driven to criticize both him and President Barack Obama due to the color of their skin. Holder did not appear to elaborate on who he considered to make up the “more extreme segment.” (RELATED: NYT runs ‘Fast and Furious’ factual inaccuracy, favoring Holder)

“This is a way to get at the president because of the way I can be identified with him,” Holder said, according to the Times. “Both due to the nature of our relationship and, you know, the fact that we’re both African-American.” (RELATED: Justice Dept silent as Holder charges critics with racism)

West said Holder can’t logically assign race as a motivation behind the criticisms for his handling of Operation Fast and Furious. “What Fast and Furious has to do with is misleading the Congress and the American people about what you knew about this program, and if you did not know anything about this program, then who’s in charge of the Department of Justice?” West said. “It has nothing to do with your race — it has everything to do with competence, with your character and with your ability to lead the Department of Justice.”

Tuesday Members to hold presser for Holder’s resignation, ‘demanding answers and accountability’

By Matthew Boyle – The Daily Caller

Several members of Congress will band together next Tuesday at 1:15 to demand “answers and accountability” on Operation Fast and Furious from Attorney General Eric Holder, The Daily Caller has learned.

The press conference will focus on those who’ve called for Holder’s immediate resignation – and why they’re doing it – in addition to calling the embattled Attorney General out for the information he’s continued to withhold from Congress.

Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar, who was one of the first to call for Holder’s immediate resignation, is organizing the presser. “The goal is to heighten the awareness, and publicly ask en masse that the Attorney General step aside or be fired,” Gosar told TheDC. Gosar’s office said those who haven’t yet called for Holder’s resignation are also welcome to attend to demand Fast and Furious answers and accountability.

Rep Allen West & now 9 MORE members of Congress are calling on Eric Holder to resign

By Matthew Boyle – The Daily Caller

Nine more members of Congress have told The Daily Caller that they’re calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to resign over his handling of Operation Fast and Furious, more than doubling the number on record before the weekend calling for his ouster. A total of 17 members of Congress have now called for Holder to step down.

The latest group of members includes Republican Reps. Dan Burton of Indiana, Allen West of Florida, Lynn Jenkins of Kansas, Trent Franks of Arizona, Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, Mike Pompeo of Kansas, Duncan Hunter of California, Devin Nunes of California and Dennis Ross of Florida.

Burton, who once chaired the House oversight committee that is currently investigating the Justice Department over Operation Fast and Furious, said he has always opposed Holder and didn’t believe he should be confirmed as attorney general in the first place, based on his record of deceiving Congress.

The Cain money train: Herman Cain supporters launch Super PAC – Via The Daily Caller

By Alex Pappas  The Daily Caller

The organizers of a new Super PAC in support of Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain have one goal: Make the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO more visible in early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

Even though Cain has risen to the top tier of polls, it’s well known that his rivals are far better organized in those states.

“Herman Cain has proven he is a top-tier candidate,” Americans for Herman Cain campaign director Jordan Gehrke said. “Now he needs a top-tier early state operation.” (RELATED: Candidates attack Cain and his ’9-9-9′ plan)

“We intend to augment the great job his team has done and provide reinforcements in these critical early states with some of the top political operatives in the country,” he said. “We’re going to build the voter contact operation Herman Cain needs to become our party’s nominee.”

But Gehrke said the finance operation is being built by “many of the same people who raised over $30 million for tea party candidates such as Allen West, Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell and Ken Buck in 2010 … We’re still finalizing the team — plan to make an announcement soon.”
