Allen West “Are we going to promote an opportunity society or a dependency society?

by MATTHEW BOYLE 23 Nov 2013, 1:38 PM PDT for Breitbart News

Col. Allen West, former GOP U.S. Congressman from Florida, said at a Thursday morning panel focused on the devastating economic impacts of amnesty that economic policies that displace black youths from jobs—like President Barack Obama’s immigration policies—have led to fads like the “knockout game.”

The panel, hosted by the nonpartisan pro-jobs group  Americans4Work and featuring West and other leaders on immigration policy, focused intensely on how the economy has not gotten better around the country for many groups of Americans, including the black community. They noted how the immigration policies proposed by the president and some in Congress would not help the situation.

West and fellow panelist Professor Jan Ting of Temple University were discussing what they called the “new normal” in America—how Americans are not succeeding independent of the government in record numbers.

“What we don’t want to see happening in the United States of America is this second and third generation of welfare,” West said. ”That becomes the new normal. When you look and see your mother and your father or your grandmother or your aunt or uncle, whoever is raising you, that they were born in Section Eight housing, their kids were in Section Eight housing. And therefore, you think there is no place else for me to go but Section Eight housing.”

Allen West “Term limits are necessary to stop corruption in D.C”

20100120_TermLimits

by MATTHEW BOYLE via Breitbart

In the second part of his interview with Breitbart News on the corruption in Congress uncovered in Government Accountability Institute President and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer’s new book Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets, former U.S. Rep. Allen West (R-FL) said that new leadership in needed in Washington in both political parties to solve the issue.

West was talking specifically about the revelation that every committee chairmanship and committee assignment for every member of Congress is for sale, documentation of which is found in Schweizer’s new book Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets.

West said he is not sure if making it illegal to tie committee slots to political party fundraising dollars would be successful without a complete change in leadership of both parties in Washington. “First of all, you’re asking the people that write the laws to make something illegal that they’re doing,” he said. “And I don’t think you’re going to ever get there unless you have a wholesale change of leadership both Republicans and Democrats, people with a different perspective who will go in and truly get Washington, D.C. to serve the American people and not K Street and themselves. So that’s the first thing; the American people have to decide that they want something different.”

West also said he believes term limits are necessary to stop corruption in D.C. “Politics has become a big business thing, even for media outlets,” West said. “I mean, down here in South Florida, you have some very big media outlets and some people have to raise money for that. Also, parties have become big businesses within themselves in which they have to get a message out and things of that nature as well. So, I think a very important part of it should be term limits.”

Allen West “Mayor Mia Love is about to become a household name.” @MiaBLove

You’ve probably never heard of her before, but you will soon…because Mayor Mia Love is about to become a household name.

Last summer she gave one of the most heart-felt and inspiring speeches I’ve heard at the Republican Convention and gave liberal Congressman Jim Matheson the fight of his political life in Utah’s 4th Congressional district. She lost by less than 800 votes, but fortunately for us, she’s up for a rematch.

Since announcing her candidacy in May, Mia has put Matheson and the liberal left on notice. She’s in the district every day meeting voters, participating in events, and holding Matheson accountable for voting in lockstep with Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. But Pelosi’s radical fundraising machine is preparing to launch an all-out assault against her.

Will you stand with me today to build the arsenal the Guardian Fund will use to fight back on behalf of candidates like Mia Love? Please follow this link to donate $25, $50, $100, or more today.

Mia Love is the quintessential Guardian Fund candidate. The daughter of Haitian immigrants, Mia knows what it takes to work hard and make ends meet—and she’s living proof the American Dream still exists.

Despite coming to the United States with just a few dollars to their name, Mia’s parents never took a free handout and instilled this principle in their daughter. Today Mia is an unwavering advocate for limited government, fiscal sanity, and personal responsibility—three things desperately missing in Washington.

We need steadfast conservatives, like Mia, fighting for us in Washington and that’s why I created the Guardian Fund. Please stand with me and make sure Mia and others like her win next November by donating $25, $50, $100, or more today.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Steadfast and loyal,

Allen West | Are House Republicans inexplicably ready to grant Obama a Fast Track Promotion?

obama-claw-wh-photo

by LTC ALLEN WEST (USA, RET.) 15 Oct 2013, via Breitbart.com

President Obama is seeking power the Constitution has assigned to Congress. Soon, he will formally ask Congress to surrender its constitutional authority and grant him “Fast Track” Trade Promotion Authority.

And House Republicans are inexplicably ready to give it to him.

Members of Congress who take our Constitution seriously will follow Nancy Reagan’s advice and Just Say No.

Article One, Section 8 of the Constitution assigns Congress the exclusive responsibility to set the terms of “commerce with foreign nations” — trade. The Founders established this clear check and balance to prevent the president from unilaterally negotiating deals that reward his supporters while harming opponents or the nation as a whole.

Under Fast Track, Obama would be able to sign commercial trade agreements before Congress votes on them. Congress would not even be able to amend the agreements in any way — it would only have an up-or-down vote when the president says so, before members could even read it.

While Congress has delegated authority to presidents in the past, it was based on the premise that the legislative branch could trust the executive branch to respect Congress’ constitutional role. This administration has breached that trust.

Allen West “Our Constitutional republic is under attack. Barack Obama and his liberal henchmen are radically transforming this nation”

westpac-logo

What is the state of our union?

Our Constitutional republic is under attack. Barack Obama and his liberal henchmen are radically transforming this nation into a socialist paradise where the federal government is invading every aspect of our lives. And without immediate action to stop them in their tracks, I fear they will succeed.

I know you share my passion for restoring commonsense conservative principles in Washington, and I’m counting on your support to elect 14 hard-charging conservatives to Congress next fall. But first, I urgently need your help to expose just how much danger America is in as long as Barack Obama is at the helm.

My team and I have prepared a personalized, confidential survey for you to tell me how strong — or weak — you believe the state of our union is and whether you think America is on the right or wrong track.

Will you follow this link right now to complete the brief State of the Union survey?

I’ve told you before that leadership is about character — you either have it or you don’t — and that we call leading from behind following in the military. Well if we’ve learned one thing during Obama’s six years in the Oval Office, it’s that he’s a follower.

But what does that mean for the strength of this nation? Tell me what you think by completing the confidential State of the Union survey today.

When you’ve completed the survey, I encourage you to make a generous donation to support the Guardian Fund and our efforts to elect 14 hard-charging conservatives to Congress in 2014. Whether you can donate $10, $25, $50 or more, your support is critical to successfully completing our mission.

Steadfast and Loyal,
Allen West
Lt. Col. Allen B. West, USA (ret)
U.S. Congressman (2011-2013)

P.S. The State of the Union survey is a tool we’ll use on an on-going basis to gauge how strong — or weak — you believe the state of our union to be. As we enter election season 2014, your feedback will be critical to helping us keep the Obama administration’s shortcomings and failures front and center in the media. Thank you in advance for your support.

How is it that the Conservative movement continues to lose the messaging war on public policy “fairness”? I gave a speech last night in Potomac where I addressed this specific point.

When we look at this question in terms of economic, healthcare and education policy, the Conservative alternative clearly produces results which are, by any measure, “fair”. When Reagan cut the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%, not only did tax revenue increase, but the wealthiest Americans paid a greater percentage of total tax revenue, not less. What is “unfair” about this?

Healthcare public policy has treated the poorest among us in a particularly brutal way. Here are the hard facts: according to a landmark University of Virginia study, a patient using Medicaid is nearly twice as likely to die after surgery than a patient with private insurance. Even worse, a patient with Medicaid is 13% more likely to die after surgery than a patient with NO INSURANCE AT ALL. How is this “fair”? The Conservative alternative simply gives a means tested benefit to struggling Americans to buy the exact same insurance plans wealthy Americans have access to.

Finally, it is the Conservative movement that is passionately fighting for school choice. According to Jason Riley of the WSJ, the nation has 20,000 high schools and, shockingly, only 2,000 are responsible for half of our dropouts. If you happen to be Black, you have a 50% chance of sending your child to one of these schools. This is a moral tragedy as these children have had their American Dream shamefully wiped out. We are the ones fighting for their shot at a better tomorrow, we are the ones fighting for fairness and equal opportunity for everyone.

Stop ceding the moral high-ground to cheap talking points. Take back the argument using the one weapon that the organized left has no defense against, the facts.   – Dan Bongino

Allen West Is Acting Like a Guy Running For President in 2016

120104_allenwest_ap_328
By Tim Elfrink for New Broward Times

South Florida had to know that booting Allen West out of Congress wouldn’t mean an end to reading about Allen West’s antics. The guy almost immediately landed a gig on Fox News after leaving Washington, after all.

Still, dealing with West’s rants about Muslims and Obamacare on Murdoch’s network is a different animal than dealing with Allen West, presidential candidate. That title may not be official yet, but West spent this past weekend in New Hampshire acting like a guy putting his name out there for 2016’s GOP bid for the White House.

West became a Tea Party hero during his two years in Congress, but alienated many more moderate conservatives in his district with a non-stop sideshow of hardline tactics in DC. His highlight reel included declaring that 80 percent of Democrats are “secret communists,” declaring war on Islam as a religion, and slamming Lady Gaga.

But thanks in part to redistricting, he lost a tight race to Democrat Patrick Murphy last fall. His popularity with the GOP’s Tea Party wing has stayed strong, though, and West is at least floating the balloon for a 2016 run.

He’s hinted at the ambition in the past — including comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln, who served just one term in Congress before heading to the White House — but this weekend marked a notable trip to early state battleground New Hampshire.

West chatted on an AM radio station, visited naval cadets and delivered a keynote at a Nashua Republican City Committee dinner.

A Facebook campaign to draft West for the presidential race has a respectable 10,000 likes, meanwhile.

Yeah, it’s way to early to guess what Allen West is actually up to and you’re much safer putting your money on that other one-time South Florida Tea Party Hero who’s still actually a force on Capitol Hill. But unless he wins a Congressional race in the meantime, don’t be shocked if this is only the first of many New Hampshire stops for the political firebrand.

Allen West “Sharing some more items of hypocrisy when it comes to your government”

AW tweet

by Allen West via Facebook

Now and then I like to share with you some items of hypocrisy when it comes to our government. I just received another notice from the US House of Representatives Committee on Ethics relating to the Ethics in Government Act. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. It seems they want me to file another financial disclosure statement since I departed the Congress, and they threatened me with a $200 fine. Now would it just be simple to ask, are there any changes from your last statement? However, consider this, did anyone ask the IRS to submit a financial disclosure statement after 225 conferences over the past two years at the cost of $50 million to the American taxpayer? Did anyone ask Secretary of State John Kerry to file a financial disclosure statement after giving the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood government American taxpayer dollars — after Congress had stated no? So actually, why should I file a financial disclosure statement since the DOJ, IRS, and NSA can just secretly get all my financial, phone, email records anyway. Welcome to the hypocrisy of our Federal Government. This is similar to Satan asking Reverend Billy Graham to disclose his church attendance records. And yes, I will be calling my former colleague Rep. Michael Conaway, Chairman of the Committee on Ethics.

Allen West : The Lessons of History – National Review Online

AWHannity

by Allen West via National Review Online

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
— George Santayana

We should study history not just to memorize dates and places but to analyze trends. I see our country once again following a particular disturbing trend at a critical time when we should be more prudent.

Now, I will be one of the first to say that we can find savings of taxpayer dollars in the Department of Defense budget. Before I was sworn in as a member of Congress, I stated on Meet the Press in the waning months of 2010 that we could find fraud, waste, and abuse in that budget.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I backed up that assertion in April 2011 when my first piece of legislation, which identified and eliminated funding for several wasteful programs in the DOD budget, made it to the House floor. It passed 393–0, and the savings to the American taxpayer was $35 million per year.

However, what I see occurring now is not judicious cost-cutting but the degradation of our military capability. We are once again forgetting that the preeminent responsibility of the federal government is to “provide for the common defense.” Some people have confused this with providing welfare and guaranteeing happiness on the notion of limitless rights.

Since World War I, we as a nation have viewed any end of major combat operations as an opportunity to achieve fiscal responsibility through cutting the military budget. When World War II ended, we ramped down, and then we had to ramp back up for the Korean War. After the Vietnam War and the Cold War, we once again gutted our military capability.

I was commissioned as a second lieutenant on July 31, 1982, and the following year, after graduating from the University of Tennessee, I went on active duty. I witnessed the transformation of the U.S. military in my early years: Humvees, Bradleys, Abrams tanks, Apache attack helicopters, Blackhawk transport helicopters, and Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) artillery, the A-10 close-air support platform — all this new technology and equipment was instrumental in my first combat tour, Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

We were highly trained and ready for action thanks to our soldiers’ preparation at places like the National Training Center in the California desert. But after the victory came the reduction in forces, and defense cuts became the source of funds for government spending on other programs, such as midnight basketball.

In those days, we did not have enough small-arms ammunition for rifle qualification. We had to carefully budget our annual allocation of artillery rounds, so we did more dry-fire operations. The shortage of spare parts and tools made maintenance operations very intense. But the one thing we could not control was that the world was growing yet more dangerous. The enemy pays attention to our weakness, and they have a vote.
