by Allen West

“Yikes. It’s actually even worse. Eight million more Americans no longer even looking for work since Obama’s first term. Share this link with someone who thinks we’re headed in the right direction. The 7.8% unemployment rate is smoke and mirrors.”

First Term: Americans ‘Not in Labor Force’ Increased 8,332,000

The number of Americans age 16 or older who decided not to work or even to seek a job increased by 8,332,000 to a record 88,839,000 in President Barack Obama’s first term, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

At the same time, the number of retired workers collecting Social Security increased by only 4,234,480.

The increase in Americans opting out of the labor force during Obama’s first term resulted in a decrease in the labor force participation rate from 65.7 percent in January 2009, the month Obama was first inaugurated, to 63.6 percent in December 2012, the latest month reported. Before Obama took office, the labor force participation rate had not been as low as 63.6 percent since 1981, the year President Ronald Reagan took over from President Jimmy Carter.

To be in the labor force a person must either have a job or actively sought one in the previous four weeks. (continue reading here)

Congressman Allen West released this statement today regarding the latest unemployment report

(WASHINGTON)— Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today regarding the latest unemployment report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“July marks the 42nd consecutive month Americans have suffered under unemployment rates of eight percent or above.

Employers are simply not hiring and why should they? President Obama has promised to raise taxes on America’s small businesses starting January 2013. President’s Obama’s healthcare law is looming over employers and threatening to fine them for every employee they do not insure. President Obama is calling for the United States military to be reduced and defense contractors are preparing to slash thousands of jobs around the country. President Obama refuses to lead or come up with any solutions to build certainty, stability or confidence among American businesses.

President Obama instead believes individuals who have built their businesses did not do it on their own.  President Obama believes we need more spending and we need to punish individuals who are succeeding in our free market system.  All one has to do is examine the tax and regulatory policies of the Obama administration to know they are counter productive to economic growth.

In the House of Representatives, we have voted over and over on job-creating legislation only to have it sit on Democrat Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid’s desk.  Just this week, a bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives voted to make sure no American family or small business sees a tax increase. In the House of Representatives, we are committed to supporting businesses and putting Americans back to work.

American families from coast to coast must realize the policies of President Obama, demonstrated once again by today’s unemployment number, are not working.  The American people have a choice between two futures. It is time to reject the  path of high unemployment and an anemic economy and instead take the path of limited government and fiscal responsibility.  This is the path our founders carved out for us, and it is the path that will lead our nation back to prosperity and economic freedom.”

Congressman Allen West’s Weekly Wrap Up – July 9, 2012

Greetings to our constituents, all Floridians, and all Americans,

I pray you had a wonderful and happy Independence Day celebration!

It was a great week for me, which gave me time to reflect upon Thomas Jefferson’s impeccable document and the foundational premise upon which this great nation was established. I have sought to articulate that premise this past week when possible – the concept of individual sovereignty.

That was why I read the entire Declaration of Independence at several different venues this week. What was very telling were the grievances as listed by Thomas Jefferson and how we see a parallel and resemblance to where we are today. America is moving away from Jefferson’s vision of individual liberty to one of collective subjugation and economic dependence – in effect a new form of slavery.

It is clear that when one objectively assesses where this current Administration is taking America, its members are more concerned with wedding more people to government in a dependent mode than empowering American’ to live out their dreams, and enjoy their unalienable rights which do not emanate from man or government, but from our Creator, the supreme judge.

We see that in this past month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Social Security Administration, more Americans signed up for Social Security disability (85,000) than jobs were created (80,000). Since June 2009, while the Obama Administration claims 2.4 million jobs have been created, there have been 3.1 million Americans going on Social Security disability in the same timeframe.

Let us not forget, under this Administration, unemployment benefits were increased from 26 weeks to 99 weeks. When economic policies are failing, the solution is not to throw up our hands and simply dole out more benefits. The solution is to change policy.

Instead, poverty rolls have increased by almost seven million Americans since 2009.

Food stamp rolls (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) have grown from 32 million to 46 million, a 45 percent increase. We now even have a federal government using American taxpayer dollars to promote individuals enrolling on food stamps… unconscionable!

We have the lowest job participation rate that America has seen in 31 years at 63.7 percent. And we now have had 41 months of unemployment above eight percent — the longest running high rate since the Great Depression.

Yet, President Obama states, “We are on the right track.”

Sure we are, if your dream and desire is to economically enslave the American people and collectively subjugate them to government dependency.

We are so far away from Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. It is now becoming a Declaration of Dependence under this Administration. That ladies and gentlemen is truly a form of slavery, and is not what the title “American” was meant to be. It is certainly not what 56 men pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to establish.

This is enslavement of our indomitable American entrepreneurial spirit, and I will join forces with all those who seek to change this course.

Steadfast and Loyal
