Wounded Warrior, Cub Scouts and more Highlights of the week – Congressman Allen West

Highlights of the Week

– Tuesday, September 27th, Addressed the Florida Bankers Association luncheon in West Palm Beach, met with our Small Business Advisory Committee to discuss critical issues impacting business growth (regulations and labor laws were the focus), conducted our monthly Broward County Town Hall meeting in Coconut Creek.

– Wednesday, September 28th, met with the CEO of Brandsmart USA to discuss leveling the playing field between traditional and internet retailers, provided a Washington update forum to the Seniors of St. Andrews South and Edgewater Pointe communities, addressed the Palm Beach State College– Boca Raton campus, Political Forum club, packed room of approx 200 were given a Washington update and understanding of our guiding principles, we also took some great questions. Visited the Boynton Beach High School Aerospace Academy — this is a model for education in the 21st century- pictures here, and conducted our monthly Palm Beach County Town Hall meeting in Boynton Beach at St. Mark’s Catholic School.

– Thursday, September 29th, met with the Broward County Small Business Advisory Board, the focus again was on the regulatory environment and relationships with prime contractors and payments, visited with the St. Francis Mission for homeless veterans — this is an epidemic problem in South Florida which we must rectify — provided a Washington update and issues presentation to Everest University in Pompano Beach with students and faculty/staff in attendance, spoke to the College Republican Club of Palm Beach Atlantic University membership rally on Constitutional conservative principles, and took pictures here with.

– Friday, September 30th, at the request of a dear friend, Broward Sherriff’s Office Lieutenant Wally Haywood, met and spoke with the Broward Sheriff’s office of Cooper City and some of their City Commissioners –good question and answer session on local impacts of poor federal government fiscal policies, addressed the Broward Pastor’s network meeting at the Redeeming Word Church in Ft Lauderdale, truly a blessing, and conducted an interview with Pastor Herrigan on Haitian radio. Great to get our message out, but I do have to work on my Creole.

– Saturday, October 1st, it was truly a Lauderdale-By-The-Sea morning and certainly enjoyable. We began the day with a shore dive out to their first reef system to view the “bio-rock” solar project. We then proceeded to do a reef cleanup just below the Commercial Blvd fishing pier, lots of fishing line to untangle off our pristine reef system. Then we came on shore and participated in the monthly beach cleanup- too many cigarette butts! See pictures here. Lastly, I went over to make chocolate military service seal medallions for our Wounded Warriors with Scout Troop 512 at Jan’s Chocolates in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea… certainly a place to visit if you have a sweet tooth. See article below.

– Sunday, October 2nd, as stated above… ran in my third straight Dunn’s Run 5-mile race. There were eighteen runners in my age group and I was fortunate enough to finish middle of the pack. Hat tip to Mr. Dunn, Reagan Wireless and all of the other sponsors as we must support the Boys and Girls Clubs who offer a positive influence to our young people!

Congressman West Joins Scouts to Make Chocolates for Wounded Warriors

(LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA) —-  Congressman Allen West joined a group of Boy Scouts from Pack 512 and their Daisy counterparts Saturday, October 1st at Jan’s Homemade Candies in Lauderdale-By-The- Sea, to make chocolates bearing the insignias of the Armed Forces. The chocolates will be sent to recovering soldiers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center along with hand-made get well cards.

Congressman West donned apron and gloves to carefully pour melted chocolate into the special Armed Forces molds. The chocolate medallions were then chilled and individually wrapped before being sent to the hospital at Bethesda where they will be distributed.

“We wish our wounded warriors a speedy recovery,” Congressman West said. “Each and every one of us owes an immense debt of gratitude for their service, and these small expressions of caring mean so much for those who have given so much.”
