On this day we remember a simple yet profound speech delivered by a simple yet iconic American leader. Today is the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address given by our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. Our current president is from the Land of Lincoln – Illinois — but for whatever reason will not be at Gettysburg to pay homage to this moment, a seminal moment in American history — how utterly despicable. I suppose the Organizing for America conference call the evening prior was just too taxing. Ironic isn’t it, that the first African-American president will not attend a historic moment remembering a “new birth of freedom.”

Therefore, since America is lacking a leader to address the nation on this momentous day, I decided to write and share with you all a modern Gettysburg Address:

“Seven score and ten years ago, this great nation stood divided on the fundamental concept of liberty and freedom. There were those who believed they possessed the liberty to withhold the freedom of others and that was defined as their right.

Another part of this great nation believed, as a slave owner had written, that we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights from their Creator thus being life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This nation went to war, a Civil War, to guarantee the promise of the latter, rather than live with the shame of the former. So here amongst the picturesque Pennsylvania hills surrounding Gettysburg two armies met: the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of the Potomac. And as poetic justice would have it, they met from July 1st to 3rd in 1863 to determine the course of this great land.

The latter prevailed at the end of those three days by way of sheer determination, but both sides displayed uncommon valor and bravery. The defining moment to end the physical bondage of others had come, and freedom was the victor.

We remember the honored dead of Gettysburg – but let us remember all the honored dead who have made the stand against the enemies of freedom: Fascism, Nazism, Japanese imperialism and Communism.

However today, this great country, this longest running Republic the world has ever known is yet again embroiled in a seminal fight for liberty and freedom. The current ideological conflagration in America pits a belief of collective subjugation, by means of the metaphysical bondage of dependency, to the will of government as opposed to the liberty of individuals to determine their way in life – enabling their pursuit of happiness.

Even today the political names of the actors, Democrats and Republicans, remain the same, but only the circumstances have changed. We again are challenged to honor the promise of our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, and the words of Jefferson, as well as our Constitution.

It is not only this internal struggle against progressive socialism but the external fight against Islamic totalitarianism — both threats to individual liberty and freedom.

Our men and women in uniform are deployed against the latter adversary, but we must all stand as guardians of this Republic against the former. What is at stake? The exact same thing that President Abraham Lincoln championed 150 years ago, “that the government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”

May God bless the American legacy of courage displayed at Gettysburg, the Gettysburg address, and this beacon of liberty and freedom, the land of the free because it is the home of the brave. The place we call home, our beloved Constitutional Republic, these United States of America.”

  1. Reblogged this on Brittius.com and commented:
BRAVO!! Allen West will be giving the 150th Anniversary speech at Gettysburg! A REAL AMERICAN! No alibis. No excuses. Standing Tall. Speaking to all. Allen West for President – 2016 (if not sooner).

  2. OBAMA DOESN’T GO TO ANY MILITARY CEMETARIES . THANK GOD AS I WOULD NOT WANT THAT PIECE OF CRAP NEAR MY GRAVE..IF HE CAME TO A VETERANS CEMETARY, IT WOULD ONLY BE TO PISS ON THE HEROES OF OUR COUNTRIES GRAVES . HE IS A MUSLIM AND STATED IT FROM THE BEGINING.

    • You, sir, are hilarious. That level of ignorance is comical. First off, if he was Muslim, we would know this thru the multiple times a day he must pray towards the East. Muslims are just as devout, if not moreso, than Christians. Also, if he was Muslim – WHO CARES?! Our founding fathers, amazing men they were. They all agreed that religion had no place in government. Don’t believe me? Feel free to read some true, reliable, factual quotes :

James Madison wrote that government involvement with the church “implies either that the civil magistrate is a competent judge of religious truth; or that he may employ religion as an engine of civil policy. The first is an arrogant pretension falsified by the contradictory opinions of rulers in all ages, and throughout the world: the second an unhallowed perversion of the means of salvation.” “… no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.”
Thomas Jefferson writes: “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.”
      Finally –
John Adams signed the 1797 Treaty with Tripoli, which reassured the Muslim nation that “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

Think on this for a while, Joel. And ask yourself, if the country you hold so dear is the country you hold so dear. Religion has no place in the government. The English who came seeking refuge from England did so because the King was instituting his own religion, the Anglican Church, as a means to rule with DIVINE impunity. He was in charge because God said so. That kind of power is TOO powerful, get it ?

      • Jeff please know Joel is on point.
Obama was never a Christian much less baptized as one. He clamed in a Freudian slip he is of the Muslim faith. He attended Islam religious instructions as a citizen of Indonesia. Jeremiah Wright even said he doubted he would convert to Christianity. On bended knees and backs he prayed to Allah in the White house with other Muslims. Have you ever heard Obama recite a Christian prayer? If he does it out of deceit. Muslims are instructed by the Quran and Hadith to lie and deceive the infidel/you. I suggest you read their guide books for their thoughts on a Christian nation or any non-believers.

      • In regard to American being founded on Christian and Judeo beliefs or not isn’t any real consequence because John Adams evidently never read the Quran or Hadith. Therefore he was also deceived by trying to deceive the Muslims.

      • schauminator, don’t forget that he NEVER stands in front of the American flag when he speaks like ALL the presidents before him. he speaks in front of a muslim praying cloth. he is a muslim indeed. as an American, i can’t believe he got into office. i’m ashamed of him

      • Never forget the Clinton’s let Obama off the hook for fraud and then wound up enabling him. All in congress and the senate knew Obama was a Muslim fraud in 2008. We The People must house clean on Capitol Hill in 2014 and 2016. The broom should hit Boehner first and then McCain and friends.

      • Jeff – You quoted Thomas Jefferson as saying “thus building a wall of separation between church and state.” You are quoting from a letter Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Convention of Danbury Conn. Why was he writing the Danbury Baptists? Because they wrote to him expressing concern he was about to form a Church of America like the Church of England. I have personally read Jefferson’s response in his own hand. I do not believe he used the word “wall” I believe he actually used the word veil. That would make it “thus building (or creating) a veil of separation between church and state.” If you went on in the letter, Jefferson later mentions that veil one more time. In the second reference, he stated “the veil of separation is a one way veil protecting the church from the state.” In fact, most of the original 13 colonies when they elected their first representatives to the House and Senate, made the requirement they be active in their local church in order to be qualified to serve in the federal government. Active does not mean attending like it does today, it meant they had to be a Deacon, Elder, or at least a Sunday School Superintendent. They were required to hold an office in their church other than “pew warmer” So, respectfully Jeff, I’m going to agree with our founding fathers. I believe the church was to be protected from the government, but I do not believe the government was ever to be protected from the church! There is also a case to support my opinion decided in the 1800’s by the United States Supreme Court that ruled a man be held for treason something like “since the United States is a nation founded on the principles and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible, an attack on the name of Jesus is the same as an attack on the United States.” They cited over 40 other decisions they had made to support upholding the guilty of treason verdict. The vote was also unanimous.

  3. Wonder what is more important? Golf? Lying some more about his actions, or lack there of? Orchestrating more cover ups for his many failures? Football games? Taking a crap? Everything???

  4. Bravo Zulu, Colonel West. And on this day, I wish you “Fair Winds and Following Seas”!

  5. Sir, he has never cared about our traditions. He has never cared about what the MAJORITY of our nation think about his manipulation and deceitful behaviors. He has never cared for the God who made this nation great. Therefore, I do not care whether he never shows up for another TRULY American event until he is escorted from the grounds he has insulted and belittled – however that may occur. I am tired of untruthful, treacherous, snobbish know-it-alls telling us what we should do with this nation. If they do not like who we are, they are free to LEAVE. I am tired of these games. And I KNOW I am not alone in that sentiment. -Served with Honor-

  6. Abraham Lincoln supposedly freed the slaves so why woudl’nt the POTUS attend the events, he is after all a member of the freed group isn’t he. Well half anyway.

  7. Michael Berry just posted a video on FB of Obama reciting the Gettysburg Address and omitting the words “UNDER GOD!” That was also DISPICABLE! I just watched it and posted to FB. Was that from another year, or did he record it from inside the country club where he is going to play golf in a few minutes, and therefore COULDN”T possibly attend the actual Anniversary of Lincoln’s profound address?

  8. Col.West, Sir, It is amazing how a black man that was raised in the south, and saw first hand what racism is about and still loves his fellow man. I’m sure you have bitter memories of the past. But, yet you still fought and defended this great country of ours, and your still fighting for the rights of every man, woman, and child. I do believe if Abraham Lincoln was alive today, he would gladly call you friend. It is with sadness in my heart that we do not have a President, Commander in Chief, a man, that does not love his country, the way President Lincoln must have had the day he resided his famous speech. But, I read your words, and the hope for this country, filled my heart that was empty. Thank you, for the passion you carry for this nation, and may God Bless You, and God Bless America!! Kelley White Seward

  9. First African American President!
I’d say he is much more than that. He was born of a white women’s womb, his biological father was a Muslim and enemy of the UK, his step father was a Muslim, Obama was schooled in Islam not Christianity, all his potential mentors in his formidable years abandon him. His true mentors were found when he reach college as they were Socialist, Progressive, Communist and Marxist in their political thought process. Obama’s half brother is being sought after by the Egyptian Courts for aiding and abetting the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama has surrounded himself in the White House with more Muslims as consultants and czars.
Obama has no legal documents to prove in any court of law he is Barack h. Obama, II. This includes a birth certificate, passport records, SSN or baptismal certificate.

So, I say as President Lincoln would on this150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address he gave, there is no need to further disgrace our country by having Barry or Barack to be in attendance.

  10. Thank you, Col. West, first for your honorable service to our country, and secondly, for speaking out for most of us Americans who love our country and want only the best for all it’s people. I am a veteran of the U.S. Navy (WAVES) and was always very proud to serve my country. I am also a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (my maternal great grandfather and maternal grandmother are both original enrollees on the Dawes Roll) and am saddened by what is happening right now to my country that I love so much. I will wholeheartedly support you if you are lead to run for the President of the United States.

  11. COLONEL WEST , THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND FOR YOUR WORDS THIS DAY. IF I MIGHT SIR , IN YOUR SPEECH YOU HONOR OUR SOLDIERS ,PAST AND PRESENT AND THOSE THAT HAVE FALLEN TO KEEP US A GREAT NATION.THESE MEN AND WOMEN ARE HEROES. I WOULD ASK THAT YOU DO NOT DISTRACT FROM THEIR MEMORY BY MENTIONING THOSE NOT PRESENT AND THOSE NOT WORTHY OF INCLUSION WITH THOSE WHO HAVE SACRIFICED SO MUCH FOR THE NATION .
