Allen West “Term limits are necessary to stop corruption in D.C”

by MATTHEW BOYLE via Breitbart

In the second part of his interview with Breitbart News on the corruption in Congress uncovered in Government Accountability Institute President and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer’s new book Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets, former U.S. Rep. Allen West (R-FL) said that new leadership in needed in Washington in both political parties to solve the issue.

West was talking specifically about the revelation that every committee chairmanship and committee assignment for every member of Congress is for sale, documentation of which is found in Schweizer’s new book Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets.

West said he is not sure if making it illegal to tie committee slots to political party fundraising dollars would be successful without a complete change in leadership of both parties in Washington. “First of all, you’re asking the people that write the laws to make something illegal that they’re doing,” he said. “And I don’t think you’re going to ever get there unless you have a wholesale change of leadership both Republicans and Democrats, people with a different perspective who will go in and truly get Washington, D.C. to serve the American people and not K Street and themselves. So that’s the first thing; the American people have to decide that they want something different.”

West also said he believes term limits are necessary to stop corruption in D.C. “Politics has become a big business thing, even for media outlets,” West said. “I mean, down here in South Florida, you have some very big media outlets and some people have to raise money for that. Also, parties have become big businesses within themselves in which they have to get a message out and things of that nature as well. So, I think a very important part of it should be term limits.”

  1. I believe in term limits. Also believe that these crooks in government should get a term in prison unlimited for the harm they are doing to America.

  2. I don’t want to make up accounts for every single thing I do, on every single page I visit, and now to not have my picture show unless I do. I don’t like that. Well, I’ve said my piece on this issue, thanks.

  3. I believe Term Limits may only be a part of what is needed. How about making sure candidates have a vetted resume proving a successful past performance related to governance and management. Therefore you can’t become a congressperson unless you have a resume from your home town/district related to successful business practices, with moral standing and working in their state government at min. You shall not become a Senator without first having served at least 4 years in congress. A candidate for president shall not be placed on the Presidential Ballot in any State unless he or she proven beyond any legal doubt they were born in America of two American citizen parents.
This presidential candidate as potential Commander In Chief must also had to have achieved the rank of Officer in any branch of our Armed Services including a State National Guard unit. The presidential candidate shall also be subjected to a DOD Security Clearance investigation achieving the certification of TS/SCI. This background investigation is to proceed as soon as the candidate is registered as a presidential candidate or before if said candidate know they will be running for the position of POTUS. The presidential candidate shall also submit to the public a full resume from beginning to end educational attendance scholastic achievements with full and open employment history. During the presidential debates Presidential candidates shall be questioned for their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and their adherence to it.

Let’s treat the future leaders of the Free World as if they were applying for a job with us applying for a job to serve We The People.

  4. Also, how will we get these same people to vote in term limits? It won’t happen. Leaving us the only way to vote out someone being to vote for the opposite party’s guy. In my district that means voting for the Democrat and I can’t do that even if it’s just for two years. Yes, we need term limits but how do we get them?

  5. Sir I love you like a brother, but on this you are wrong. Our founders gave us term limits. They are called elections. Introduce any other term limits and you will only limit statesmen from serving. Back room dealers will always find a way to manipulate via proxy.

The only hope for our Republic is national repentance.
