Allen West: We Must Prevent Classified Technology from Reaching Chinese – Read More Here

West Calls for Congressional hearing to ensure technology is not transferred to Chinese Companies

(WASHINGTON)— Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released a statement today after sending a letter to House Armed Services Committee (HASC) Chairman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) requesting a HASC hearing on the safeguards necessary to ensure United States classified technology is not transferred when an American company is sold to a Chinese company.  The letter specifically draws attention to the upcoming purchase of the American company responsible for manufacturing the Enhanced Medium Altitude Reconnaissance Surveillance System (EMARSS) by a Chinese company.

“I am deeply concerned that a company currently doing business with the Department of Defense – in this case building the Enhanced Medium Altitude Reconnaissance Surveillance System (EMARSS) and other sensitive military aircraft for other services – could soon be partially owned by a Chinese company with strong ties to the Beijing municipal government.” West said. “I look forward to hearing directly from counterintelligence experts on the safeguards necessary to ensure that classified technology is never transferred during sales to companies that could pose a risk to the National Security of the United States.”

West’s request for a Congressional hearing comes on the heels of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence concluding in a recent report that two Chinese firms pose a national security threat to the United States and should be blocked from doing business in the country.  See more information and West’s letter to Chairman McKeon here.
