(WASHINGTON) – Congressman Allen West (R-FL) welcomed Kurdistan Regional Government Representative to the United States, Qubad Talabani, into his Capitol Hill office this week to discuss the future of Kurdistan, a Northern Iraqi region of democracy.
During the meeting, West thanked Talabani for his long standing service to strengthening United States- Kurdish relations and discussed the strategic significance of continued United States support to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
“As a 22-year United States Army Veteran who served in Iraq and worked alongside the Kurdish people, I can tell you by experience the Kurdish people and the Kurdistan government are a strong ally to the United States,” West said. “The Kurdish people are the largest ethnic group in the world without a country. With all the turmoil and unrest occurring across the Middle East, it is essential the United States continue to support its democratic ally in Northern Iraq, Kurdistan. The Kurdistan government is asking us loud and clear, to not forget about their people during this time of great uncertainty in Iraq, Syria, and Iran.” See all the photo’s here: AllenWestFL
