When I was in the Army, I submitted a Situation Report, or SITREP, to my commanding officer each week. Since I work for you, now that our campaign is heating up the West for Congress SITREP will keep you apprised of the progress of the campaign, important news and events, and opportunities to get involved.
Dear Friend,
It’s hard to believe, but Election Day is less than 200 days away! In November 2010, thanks to your efforts and the efforts of millions of our fellow Americans, we began to change course.
While the Republican House has blocked the much of the extreme Obama agenda and taken some small but important steps to restore our economy and return our nation to sound fiscal footing, a great amount of work remains to ensure our nation remains exceptional.
It is said every year, but the 2012 election is truly the most important in a generation!
Our economy continues to fail millions of Americans. Despite passing his near-trillion dollar stimulus that we were told would keep unemployment below 8 percent, unemployment remains far above the 8 percent and recent decrease can be attributed as much to Americans simply giving up their search for work than anything else. Long-term joblessness remains at record highs. Since Inauguration Day 2009, we’ve seen a 41 percent increase in food stamp rolls and the poverty rate has increased by 16 percent!
Family budgets are being pinched and small businesses threatened by President Obama’s war on energy. On Sunday the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.89, more than double the $1.84 per gallon Americans paid when Obama took office. And the only solution the President offers is more spending, more subsidies and more government all paid for with our tax dollars, or those borrowed from China and our children and grandchildren.
The choice before us on November 6 is about our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. Do we want to pass down a nation of individual freedom and unlimited economic opportunity or continue the failed policies of the past three years and leave a future of dependency and decline?
You know where I stand on these questions, and I trust you will stand with me again.
As you probably know, as a result of redistricting, we will be running in Florida’s new 18th District.
While I look forward to the opportunity to represent the people of Martin and St. Lucie Counties, and those of part of Palm Beach County, I will miss the opportunity to represent many more of you in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
Please know representing you has been among the highest honors of my life and I will continue to be your voice in Washington. I hope you will continue to stand with me.
