(WASHINGTON)-— Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today after voting yes in favor of H.R. 5, the “Protecting Access to Health Care Act,” which repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB):
“On the eve of the second-year anniversary of the President’s dangerous and disastrous healthcare law, my colleagues and I have taken action to dismantle this unconstitutional law, even if it is one piece at a time.
The Independent Payment Advisory Board is nothing but a board of 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats who will have the power to effectively deny care to seniors by making decisions on what is paid for and what is not.
The IPAB would remain unaccountable to the American people, the Congress, the judiciary, and even the president.
However, today, with the repeal of this board, doctors and patients can rest assured they will have the authority to make decisions for themselves on some of their most personal and private life experiences. In addition, this repeal will rein in unlimited malpractice lawsuits, which will result in lower health care costs for everyone.
The President’s answer to our nation’s healthcare problems is, along with this board, to enact more than $500 billion in cuts to the existing Medicare program.
The House Republicans’ budget, also known as The Path to Prosperity, includes a much brighter, stronger vision for Medicare that saves and strengthens the program for generations to come.
President Obama must show his commitment to our seniors and sign into law the repeal of Independent Payment Advisory Board.”
Why has this taken so long, does the Senate and Obummer have to agree?
I was once one of Allen West’s BIGGEST supporters! Just KNEW he would be right for POTUS position….but after his last three votes, I no longer trust him either. HE is now “one of them” taking away our 1st Amendment Rights, NDAA-indefinite detention. KNOWING the current “regime” will run with that one, and the other “laws” he has voted on. I no longer care to hear from or about Allen West
