(WASHINGTON)— Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today on the House Budget Committee’s Fiscal Year 2013 Budget introduced today:
“America has a plan to pave its way out of problems and into prosperity, with the House Republican Fiscal Year 2013 Budget introduced today. The House Budget is a much needed blueprint for how this country goes forward, what it prioritizes, what it spends, and what it cuts. Every hardworking American family is doing the same thing, and as with personal budgets, the government has tough choices to make, but with strength and discipline, the payoff will be worth it.
The House Budget cuts spending by $5 trillion, while at the same time provides for a strong defense, restores economic freedom, and strengthens health and retirement. We were able to do this by ending special-interest favoritism and corporate welfare, reversing the President’s policies that drive up gas prices, and helping small-business owners get back on their feet and begin hiring again, by simplifying the tax code and eliminating loopholes. We do all this without putting the price on the backs of our brave military.
This is a stark contrast to the President’s budget which increases spending by $1.5 trillion, with no real plan for how to turn this economy around. The House Budget also protects and preserves Medicare through patient-centered solutions, encouraging individual choice and competition, while President Obama’s healthcare plan calls for slashing $500 billion from Medicare and putting our seniors’ future in the hands of government bureaucrats.
Just as every hardworking American family crafts a budget to keep track of its income, expenses, essentials and priorities, the United States government must do the same, lest we find ourselves in the same economic crisis year after year. For over 1,000 days, Senate Democrats have refused to pass a budget, while President Barack Obama’s budget is much of the same, more spending and debt. The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. America’s hope for the future is the House Budget, a new plan of action with a fresh, bold, smart, approach to the way we have done things in the past. I am confident America will be better off once the House Budget is passed and put into law.”’
